I've been (re)gaining strength pretty quickly for the last 2 months. Today was DL day & I thought I'd try some partials, so after my W/U, I set the bar at 9" above normal height & pulled 315x5, 405x3x3, 315x5. then finished off with 225x5 back on the floor just for kicks. The bar had very sharp knurling, & by the last set of 405, I was losing skin. I'd better find a smoother bar, even the 225s hurt after that. Didn't have any grip problems, though. First time I've ever pulled 405 for reps, even for partials.
Previous DL PR was 400, about 8 years ago.
I'm hooked. I may devise a program of partials/full pulls (ex. 495 lockouts, etc). At least getting the heavier weight in my hands should help me mentally when it's time to pull from the floor.
I was glad I had the grip to handle it, but now I remember why I always carried a mouthpiece in my gym bag.
I think my bodytype may be better suited for sumo style, but I don't feel any power that way. May be worth a try for the long run.
