Make more money as a trainer.

Does anyone know a way to make more money as a certified personal trainer? I've tried the "gym thing" and that ain't cutting it! :worried:

The only way to make decent money is at home training. More money, no cut to give to a gym, however your hours are affected by travel time.

If the "gym thing" didn't cut it then it probably means either you were at the wrong gym or you couldn't sell. Sales is the biggest part of personal training unfortunately.

find your niche. don't be "all over the board" or a "jack of all, master of none" as some trainers are. It's better to be outstanding at one type of training, rather than trying to train everyone because you need to eat.
Find another job to supplement with until the word gets out that you are really great at training "x type" of clients and eventually the referals will keep you more than busy. People will seek you out just to train in your speciality. it works IF you are willing to put in the time and effort.

raise your rates and stand by your work. its that simple. there are only so many hours in a day, so get good and charge what you feel youre worth. if you can't present your abilities then you won't make more money. work on your presentation skills (yes sales!).

i think if you can return phone calls, dress neatly and professionally, show up on time - everytime, speak correct english (if applicable), and hold a fairly decent conversation your 1/2 way home. Of course the proof is in the pudding. Document your clients progress and USE THEM to get you more clients. Nothing gets new people like a good testimoinal with befor and after photos! Lastly put yourself in an ideal situation (gym or studio) or go for the in-home thing. Some systems are set up in a way that it is impossible for you to make decent money.
hope that helps

how much money do i expect to make per month if i were to personal train at a commercial gym for 12 hours a week?

Also, what is the cut commercial gyms get?

12 hours a week??

like you are training someone and billing them 12 hours a week??

if you bill at $75 per hour with no splits that's $150,000 pre tax if you were working 40 hours

12 hours = $900 per week.. you would need about 30 students to accomplish that..

i am only expecting $600 a month...........how much students do i need if i want to work 6 hours a week and how much would i need to charge them.

I really need to know the cut commercial gyms get.

they aren't students lol they are clients :) and you wont be working 40 hours a week right away. You have to figure in no shows and cancellations etc. I work in the gym environment and it is good because it is in a rich town with a lot of fat people.

Gym franchises can be affordable. I know of several people who opened training studios and make awesome money after just six months. SBA Loan Baby!

In my experience "commercial gyms" will take varying percentages based either on your level of education or your success as a Personal Trainer under their roof.

This may differ depending upon whether you are an employee or if you are independent of the organization.

If you are just getting started with your Personal Training career it may be best to look into the health club or studio setting. Then, once you've established yourself as a Personal Trainer that can guarantee results and you have clients that help you generate referrals, you can consider a possible move to becoming your own boss.

Hope this helps a little bit.
