mailing gear

Hi everyone. I'm new hear, so please bear with me. I haven't seen too much about this from the forums that I've browsed through yet.

Does anybody who's had success mailing gear have some advice about how to package the goods? Should you hide your gear within the package?

What things can you do to get it through customs so they won't inspect it?
