Machine Pullovers

When i do machine pullovers with a weight i can do a set of 10 with (i fail by the last rep, but i finish it) i keep getting pains in the middle of my upper back, right inbetween my shoulder blades. Why could this be? Will it cause damage?

p.s. My back is flat against the seat on the machine.

I dont know what machine pullovers are, but I think its a good idea with any excercise in the gym to stop if it causes any sort of joint pain etc.

If its not a critical part of your program, just drop it in favour of pull ups or something as effective but not as much a concern.

A classic case is behind the neck press - some can do it fine and have no shoulder pain, others willl stuff their shoulders up if they ignored the signs. It all depends on the individuals flexability, biomechanics for that excercise etc...

Just a thought bro. keep training.

If machine pull overs are as they sound, then you're pulling a weight from behind your neck to in front of your face.....without using tri's. If that's the case, then you might switch to cross-bench pull overs. Lie perpendicular on a flat bench and start with a db on your chest. Use the same motion as the machine, just lower the weight to the floor (if you can) and bring it back up to just above your chest. Keep you arms in the same position through the motion. If this still hurts, then I'd give it up entirely for a few weeks.
