Lying on your Resume...

Staind

New member
I have heard repeatedly that around 60% of the population lies on their resumes, and that when polled anonymously there are even large numbers of people that lie about lying on their resume! I would just like to hear some of what you all have said, and some of your biggest resume lies. While we are at it, I'll share what I consider a minor lie:

I am 18 and trying to get my first job. I have been working with computers since early in 98' and have an A+ certification and will soon have a network+ certification and currently attend college. I put down on my resume that I owned my own computer company for 2 years. I am trying to get a job as either help desk or microcomputer specialist or computer technician currently.

That's the kinda lie that easier to cover up. I knew of a 15 year kid who really did run his own computer company out of his parents garage. He'd fix people's computer install shit for them. You could say you were doing the same thing. How the hell are they gonna check on something like that?

yeah, shouldnt be too hard to cover these things up. i say, lie on the resume as much as you want, then prove you are competent once you get the job. ive never lied on my resume before but ive worked some pretty low end jobs...paper routes, safeway, the military...

Exactly. If I was asked to give details of my operation I would just say it was mainly a computer repair deal that I did on the side with a few sales on Ebay, etc.

Oh yea, I called the Best Buy job number and did their touch tone interview...what a bunch of bullshit. They ask questions like "what would you do if your best friend took $1 out of the cash register?" and of course they want you to respond with something like "I'd hunt down the traiter and murder his ass!"
