Lowes or Home Depot?

lowes is really good about floors.....you doing it yourself? if so they will give u lots of pointers if you need em

Lowes does it for me, especially when i have questions about things, staff always comes up randomly asking if people need help finding stuff, at home depot it seems like a hunt trying to find someone to get help from,

I wanted to the DIY method but I did not gain hubby's approval. We are getting the WHOLE house done and didn't want to risk screwing it up. Home Depot says they can do what I was gonna have Lowe's do for about 2000 less. Just didn't know if I would be risking anything.

no shit 2 k less....

are they screwing u on the quaility of flooring or something? or is ther just a special on the labor or the flooring

The flooring is the same. It seems to be 2000 off labor. Lowe's was gonna charge almost double for the labor on the wood flooring. Tile and carpet were about a match on price. I'm just wondering if HD is gonna try to add in extra costs after they start ripping up my floors. I wonder if they are gonna try to add on other "unexpected" costs. That's the only way it could be a bad deal. Well, except for if they just do a pissy job.

No.

Go to a local shop where they specialize and can install or refer you to someone who can install.

Unless you're looking to DIY

This girl knows her stuff

Home Depot or Lowes are NOT cheaper on flooring products that they install. TRUST ME I am in the business and have seen the numbers to compare. They rape you on extras, that's where they make their money. They have to as they sub the installs out, then the sub contracting company takes their cut, then the workers get the scraps of what's left. Let's say Home Depot is charging you $6.00 a sq yard to install carpeting, by the time Home Depot takes their cut of say $1.00 then the contracting company AT LEAST will take another $2.00. So that leaves the non -english speaking or drug addict installer getting $3.00 a yd. You get that kind of quality of installation, which is shit. Go to www.complaints.com and type in Lowes/Home Depot or Empire Carpet and check out some of the horror stories.
Plus if you have an issue, wouldn't you want to be guided through the whole process with one person and know directly where to go. With the big box stores nobody really cares to help if their is a problem.

Home Depot and Lowes are GREAT stores for DIY or buying something you need and walking out the door with it. Having them do in home installations such as roofing, siding, flooring, kitchens etc is asking for trouble and you usually pay the same if not more. So you might ask yourself, is it really worth the headache?

Sounds good. So, what's a good way to figure out/find out which of the pro floor guys in town won't rip me off?

I made the mistake of buying the carpet for my rental at Home Depot a few years back, two guys that didn't even speak English showed up for the install, brought the wrong carpet AND trim. Not only that, they put a gouge in my hardwood floor by dropping a hammer.

Good luck!

Anyone else ever spend about 20 seconds trying to get the bug off of there screne while reading a post by puddlemonkey..... or was it just me?

He stole that from me!

I should have been the one receiving the glory. I hate him!

my bitch with lowe's is really just the one location closest to my house. they tried to stick it to me....they TRIED to say kitchen applainces i bought in late june of 2005 were delivered on august 29, 2005...the day hurricane katrina paid new orleans a visit!

it took numerous "conferences" with store management (who, due to 5 feet of flooding in the new orleans lowe's location, cound not locate an paperwork to confrim nor deny my delivery), several phone calls to lowe's corporate offices and a Better Business Bureau complaint to get them to stop trying to collect 3K from me for merchandise never deliverd.

un-believeable! :kaioken:
