Lower leg pain

switchfelt

New member
I don't know if it is shin splint or not. I was looking around the internet and from what I understand a shin splint is pain in the posterior(inside) of the shin. Right?
My problem is after I start running, it feels like pressure/soreness on the front outside of my shin. Anyone know what this could be? I hope it's not serious.
Thanks

'Shin splints' is term applied to all parts of your lower leg.

My advice? Make sure you have the right shoes for your stride (go to a running store and get stride/gate analysis). If you pronate, you need a shoe that gives you stability.

Then, just run and they will go away. I only get them now when I don't run for a few days and then have to 'grind' them out. Usually on longer runs they go away by mile 4. Try running a few miles every day to get them to go away.

if you cant get a new pair of shoes try running on softer ground like grass, it will help with the impact, which is what mostly causes the shin splint. good luck!

If the shoes are fine, the ground is fine - then you might want to work on balancing out your "lower leg muscles".

Usually "shin splints" are the pain in the front of the shin - the anterior tibialis. This pain can be due to a muscle imbalance. The "calf" (gastrocnemius) is stronger than the anterior tibialis. If you strengthen the ant tib, then the lower leg strength is more balanced.
