LOw Carb Question

Yes. It's been over a year since I tried a CKD. I never actually blacked out, but I did feel a noticeable lack of energy and sometimes even felt dizzy.
 
Nope, not me. I'm almost 6 months in. If i've been sitting for a while then stand up fast i get light headed.....but i've always been that way :)
 
I can't say that I've ever blacked out either....but like gymtime said, I just feel completely drained on a low-carb diet...but it works for cutting up - no doubt about it...

If I do go low-carb I tend to be very careful about how active I am outside of the gym...
 
I have been on a low carb diet now for 11 weeks. About 2 weeks ago I started experiencing frequent dizzy spells, light-headness and blackouts. Many people have attributed it to my lack of carb intake coupled with high exercise levels.

You could be overtrained after all that low carbing. One syptom of overtraining is light headedness upon standing.
 
When I did the Atkins diet--I did get dizzy but it was only after I had trained. I had to start working out right before I went to bed--which I am sure is bad--but it was the only way. I would put on my p.j.'s and just pass out. Hope that helps! Be careful and make sure you drink plenty of water :)
 
When cutting carb intake..

it should be tapered. Drastically cutting carbs at once will send your body into somewhat of shock. Taper down daily intake by 10% weekly until you reach your target. Also no or low carbs mean some protein is being used for energy. Increasing cardio and cutting carbs back to 150 grams per day has been working for me. Losing too much too quick means muscle loss.
 
Well, it depends on your goals. Sometimes your body needs a "shock" to jump start it. Its one of the reasons why low carb diets like Atkins are so effective in chunking water weight and burning fat within the first 2 weeks.

Abrupt changes are not necessarily bad unless your going from a low carb diet to an all out junk food binge.
 
I get the light headed feeling if I sit up to quick also I feel stupider, it take my mind a lot longer to work and I feel like a bigger moron than I already am

Ketogenic diets leave me in a state of constant dizziness, nearly passing out at times, queasy and chronically even "more stupid" than normal.

Common sense now tells me (well it took some bad experiences for me to develop this common sense) that if this feeling persists past the first 2 weeks of a keto diet, then you might want to try a different diet! If you've been going for 11 weeks and only just now developed these symptoms, you might wanna see a quack about it.
 
from low blood sugar

your dizziness is due to the fact your blood sugar is too low for your body and mind to function properly. you are either entering or are already in a state of ketosis, which means your body is burning fat for energy, which is good and bad. If your breath is bad and you feel euphoric you are already there. Up your carbs a bit in the morning or increase your fat, either one will take the dizziness away......
 
a few years ago i tried to follow the ketogenic diet. i did it for 2 1/2 weeks and felt like shit. i didnt get any blackouts but i definately felt dizzy at times. im never doing that diet again. then again i dont have to. i know how my body works and how to get it lean when i want. right now its time to BULK. ahhh no thoughts of low carbs for me

matter is that the atkins diet is flawed
how you ask?...well ,our metabolism is forged over millions of years of evolution bros...our caveman ancestors survived and thrived on virtually little to no carbs at all in other words, they were cycled.....youve heard of essential fats?.......youve heard
of essential..amino acids and proteins?....who the hell has heard of essential carbs?...carbs have been in our diet for a couple of hundred years, our body looks at them as a foreign substance
and its not designed to run primarily on them...so to think a couple of hundred years of intro vs millions of years of existence will change our metabolism is ridiculous, evolution dont work that fast.....ive cycled my carbs in and out of my diet for 4years.....and currently im at 200lbs at 5'11 and at about 6% and im proud to say thats with no gear, and no thermogenics. Just science at work

and by the way, i feel awesome
 
Hmmmmm.........so you don't think that going from eating a handful of sugar a year to over 12lbs a year will effect your metabolism? Interesting. So why is it that we can correlate the birth and sharp increase of:

Heart Disease
Diabeties
Cancer

with our increase of sugar intake over the past 100 years? Many diseases were not documented until 10, 15, 20 years after we started making such drastic changes to our diets. Mainly the introduction of coke and food processing. Look at the problems that Italians have as a whole and compare them to the French.

The problem is not carbs so much (as whole wheats, grains, etc). The problem is that many diets are high in carbs that consist of simple sugar and junk food that are coupled with hydrogenated oils and trans fats. We all know that i'm a fan of low carb simply because it works great for me, but i don't think for a second that high carb/low fat diets are bad. Our current pyramid scheme is a good one i think, but its designed for the person who exercises and doesn't eat a lot of crap. I didn't really start to gain weight until i started "trying" to follow the pyramid scheme, emphasis on "try".

It shouldn't take "millions" of years to effect our metabolism and other chemical functions. That should be evidenced by diseases like diabetes, heart disease and hypoglycemia that we have now that weren't observered until resently. Which, for me, my signs of hypoglycemia are purely dietetic. I've had zero problems with it since i started low carbing.

Granted, people may not have known what certain "modern" diseases were 200 years ago, but they sure as hell were cutting into cadavers. For century's man has been dissecting himself ;) I think its amazing to watch overweight, insulin dependant diebetics to go from being so unhealthy to improving themselves by what? Changing their diet and slowly cutting back on insulin *with their doctors aid*, increasing their exercise time and in turn slimming down and no longer needing to shoot themselves with a needle every day. Modern Medicine can't do everything, sometimes it takes a real lifestyle change on our parts to get where we need to be.

Anyway, I agree there is no such thing as essential carbs. I disagree that cavemen didn't eat carbs. The liver is almost always the first organ eaten by hunter/predators (including primitive humans) and the liver is full of glycogen. Our ancestors also would have eaten large quantities of fruit and honey when they could get it. Of course this was probably sporadic and seasonal for many tribes/groups. Even the Eskimos ate berries, fruits and some grasses when they could get them over their short summer.

But for sure, low blood sugar sucks.

was primarily fruits berries and grains and it was cycled
out of availability not luxury...

I agree, cavemen definately got some carbs. Maybe not all the time like MS said, but surely they got some carb content :chomp: And i don't know about large quantities of fruit, but some. Remember that early man was always on the move going from one place to another. Their diet was constantly changing
