Love for spouse vs. child.....

How does yours different?? I love my wife dearly and would do anything for her, but there is just something inside me that I can't explain when I think of the love I have for my daughter. It is so amazing that one can feel so much love for an individual.....I seriously do not know what I would do with out her! Would it be wrong of me to say I love my daughter more then my wife?? Or is the types of love just that much different?

Your daughter is part of you, thats why you feel how you do.

You and your wife CHOSE to be together, whereas your daughter did not ask to be born. It isn't that you love your child more, it is a different type of love. Your wife may not always be your wife, but your daughter will ALWAYS be your daughter.

Oh my God! Not a single "tee-hee" or "hee-hee-hee-hee-hee" in there! A true miracle!

I look at my daughter and son and I see the true nature of all things. They're still innocent and pure and untouched by the bullshit of the world.

I recall one day listening to my hubby tell my daughter that he loved her more than ANYONE or ANYTHING on this earth. She asked , "You love me more than mommy or your car?". He laughed and said, "Yes, but it's our lil secret". I smiled because as much as I love him, I love her more too!

I'd say the children in this thread are VERY lucky to have parents who love them soooo much. As much as we love our kids, there are just as many children un-cared for and un-loved in this world!

My wife and I are the exact same way...we undersatnd our love is unconditional. I would always expect my wife to choose our daughter over myself.....

If you could only hear my laugh! It has been described as anything from hearty to maniacal.

And yes, I DO laugh, chuckle, chortle, guffaw THAT OFTEN in real life! That is why it is so frequently present in my typing. :D

I had the difference explained to me like this....

Say you couldn't swim a bit and your wife/husband fell off of a boat into a lake and was drowning.......you would have to think about jumping in after them.

If your child fell in......you would jump in without a care about the circumstances.

Of course I swim like a fish so it kinda got lost on me. :D :D

I couldn't agree with all of you more with regard to the love for your children. As most of you know I love my children dearly and would do anything in the world for them.

However, an interesting bent on this discussion I'd like to through out there for discussion is as follows -

My wife was classified as a 'high risk pregnancy' for both of our chidren becuase of complication with her uterus. The net result was both the unborn baby's life and her life were in danger. While we were lucky enough to never face this following situation, I do know couple do. That is having to make the choice of one life over another durring a high-risk pregnancy/birth The mother or the baby... What would you do?

I'm uncertain of how I would handle that. We did take our risks and she pushed her body to the limits and in a way put herself in alot more risk than the baby faced to ensure the birth of our children. I admire my wife for that.

What would you do?

I heard once...

The love of a spouse is conditional. Conditional on being faithful and any number of things.

The love for your child is unconditional.

That's kinda what the point to the drowning this was.

Your kid drowning and you jumping in automatically is unconditional.

Kinda sounds like Steel Magnolias. Without actually being in that situation its too hard to say what I would do.

I wouldn't think twice if it was my wife or daughter, but what if it was both of them at the same time and you had to get one??? I would choose my daughter....My wife would want me too, and I would want her to do the same if it was reversed...
