Jeremy,
Here is a pretty solid estimate of my total intake for the day:
Carbohydrates - 600 grams - 2400 calories - 55 percent
Protein - 225 grams - 1000 calories - 23 percent
Fat - 100 grams - 900 calories - 21 percent
Totals:
4300 calories per day (weighted at 100 percent)
Sources of Energy:
Carbohydrates (energy for training) -
oatmeal, potatoes, fruits, vegetables, pasta, and whole wheat bread
Protein (tissue repair) -
eggs, chicken, lean red meat, fish, pork, and skim milk
Fats (joint lubrication, hormone production, and organ prot.) -
as a supplement MCT oil, plus whatever the foods above provide.
The key is to determine how much protein your body requires to recuperate and build. This requires trial and error. I have tried the 300 to 350 grams per day, but this amount was excessive and not necessary. I felt gassy and my kidneys were over worked. Several guys on this board are consuming way too much protein, as they are neglecting foods that yield high energy and provide nutrition. I can guarantee that many guys are way over fed and undernurished just from consuming meat and protein shakes all day. Remember, your body can only digest so much protein throughout the day. The body also requires plenty of energy for function. This is why I believe that carbohydrates are the most important out of the three.
I hope some of this helps. Shoot me another question anytime.
