I just looked it up:
Lou's first physique contest was the Mr. New Jersey Open Hercules held in Trenton. He took 22nd place. The Open Hercules was held in March 1971, the year of Lou's first major physique win, the WBBG (World Body Building Guild) Teen-Age Eastern America. Thereafter, he accrued the following record:
1971 WBBG Teen-Age Mr. America
1972 WBBG Mr. America - 2nd place
1973 IFBB Mr. America
1973 IFBB (International Federation of Body Building) Mr. Universe
1974 IFBB Mr. International
1974 IFBB Mr. Universe
1974 Mr. Olympia - 2nd place (winner: Arnold Schwarzenegger)
1975 Mr. Olympia - 3rd place (winner: Arnold Schwarzenegger)
1976 ABC Superstars Competition - 4th place
1976 Tried out and played for the Toronto Argonauts (Canadian Football League)
1977 World's Strongest Man Competition - 4th place
Lou returned to competitive bodybuilding in 1992 (at 40 years of age!) after a 17-year absence and placed 12th at the Mr. Olympia contest, held in Helsinki, Finland. He entered again one year later and moved up to 10th (Dorian Yates won both shows).
