Lop sided chest

drow

New member
Hey bros i got a question. I cant seem to correct this and im out of options on what to do! The left side of my chest is bigger than the right side. Ive heard this is somewhat common on account of your heart being on that side as well but i dont know about that. Any thoughts? I havent really paid to much attention to it untill last night when my wife said, whys your chest so lop sided? Lol that kinda burned me a little bit! How can i correct this guys? And, i also have no probs with my bench, dunbell presses, etc as far as one side seeming to be stronger than the other. Thoughts?

Most is due to improper form, i would pay extra attention when doing Press & Flys.

You may be lifting too heavy, that alone will sacrifice good form.

Everybody's left pec is higher and larger than the right to protect the heart.

probably nothing you can do about it. most people have asymmetries such as arm slightly smaller than the other, leg slightly smaller than the other, etc etc. This goes all the way up to the pro ranks if you noticed

ok cool. im kinda glad to hear it. like i was saying, id understand something being wrong if my right side was lacking during lifts, like with bench and dunbell presses but its not. as far as weight goes, i feel like im just as strong on my right side as my left. thats really what was throwing me off. but thanks for the feed back bros!

heart is barely off center to the left of your chest cavity and pec muscles are not especially dense (b/c has so much to do with shoulder flex and compare e.g. to glutes) so the idea that it is larger to protect the heart makes no anatomical sense.

your form is off or, like 99% of the human population, you are asymmetrical

Yep, either poor form or your just not symmetrical.

I would slow down your pressing movements, really FEEL your WHOLE body, leg postitions, torso flat on the mat. Just be aware of everything your doing. Keep it nice and controlled and really SQUEEZE both pecs equally.

Alot of people have trouble flexing(contracting) certain muscles, and this will DEF hinder progress. I know it sounds gay, but just practice flexing, bounce them pecs and shit. lol The mind-muscle connection is VERY IMPORTANT and practicing flexing/posing will help you feel those muscles work when your working out.

My whole right side is slightly smaller(quad, chest, and traps). I just believed that I'm dominant on that side so doesn't work as hard when lifting so the left gets a better work out....also I've notice the way I drive and sit seem to play a part in everything(posture,leaning,etc.). I was in a bad wreck years ago and just use my body different now(shoulder and hip were jacked up for a while). I think both play a part in it. I've tried isolation just for that side but doesn't do anything so I just accept it and continue to work out as hard as I can.

This right here, I've been training people for over 40 yrs so this Bs because it's close to the heart is total nonsense.
