this is a major security breach, I'm really shocked it hasn't been the top story.
When you pay by debit card, many retailers keep your card info, pin and pin decryption key on their systems. A major retailer or processor got hacked and the info on hundreds of thousands of debit cards was stolen. They estimate millions of dollars are missing as the complaints keep coming in. The banks are still trying to figure out who/when/how so money is STILL being taken.
Right now, if you're travelling in Canada or Europe and you use your debit card outside the country it's likely to be automatically cancelled and your account locked until you go back to the US for a new one. Sucks if you're on a trip.
This has been going on for at least a month..... so keep an eye on your debit account!
