Looking to get into backpacking

Ive always been into primitive camping but always drove to whatever state park or sticks location in my truck so I got to bring a lot of stuff with me like 120 quart coolers and huge tents and truckload of firewood. Im trying to get away from all that easy stuff and get into backpacking and maybe throw in a rifle on my pack later on for hunting while Im at it. If anyone knows of a good discussion board for backpacking or websites for pointing me in the right direction let me know (Im in Texas by the way). thanks
