Looking for a 22 pistol

Hey Manny and the like,

I want to pick up a 22 pistol soon. My daughter wants to get into shooting, and since she is still pretty little/young, I thought this would be a good option. She has already gotten bored with the airsoft and pellet guns we got her. So I am looking for a 22 pistol that would be good for plinking around, but could also be useful at the range when I want to fire off a pile of rounds and not have to worry about cost. I was looking at the Walther P22s, but I had read mixed reviews on them. I like the look and the feel, but that is about as much I have with personal experience with them. Yall got any comments/suggestions?

Walther P22 is garbage. You wont see me calling Walther products garbage but this one in particular is unreliable.

For a good reliable .22 pistol, I'd suggest a Ruger MkII/III. Cheap, nice handling and accurate. My GF owns a blued MkII and she's totally statisfied. That was her first step before upgrading to the P7M8. She has the 5 1/2 bull barrel which is accurate and provides little recoil. She's had over 1000 rounds through it without any single jam.

There're others like the Browning Buckmark, Beretta, S&W... but the Ruger is a classic.

I have a browning buckmark. Definately the best .22 pistol I've ever shot. I'd recommend this one to anybody. I highly suggest you check it out.

I shoot a Smith 41 for Bullseye matches and it does everything I could want it to, but it's a bit heavy and maybe more money than you're looking to spend. The Ruger is, like Manny said, a classic. There are more aftermarket parts available than you can imagine, and although the takedown procedure is a little tricky, not something that you can't learn to do. It's as accurate as you'll ever want it to be and pretty inexpensive when you consider what you're getting. If I was starting over now, I'd be looking real hard at a Ruger.
