longer or shorter rest?

Umm i was wondering if between each set u should have longer or shorter rests and whats the benefits of either one? Ive done both and i seem to get very tired much faster with short which of course should happen but the thing is i feel it for a long time like 3 days after. And when i work out with longer rest i am sore just not as much and i can do that same muscle group the day after next. So do u get a better work out when ur sorer or when u arent as sore right now i have long rests and i seem to be gaining good but i wonder if i took shorter rests would i gain muscle faster? I read a thing on the 1-6 principle and i kinda see that coming to life because i go from bench and then to forearms which gives me a 10 min rest on pecs and i noticed i can do 10 more lbs in each arm on the dumbbell bp because my pecs are very warmed up. I just need some advice on what to do? I should probly look at the 5x5 and have kinda but havent had to much time to get into analizing it and stuff.

I stick with 60-75 seconds except on squats where I go 2 minutes.

if you take the bench as an example , when you are lifting heavy you need to give your self time between sets so you can apply maximum focus and force in each set, this stimulates the muscle.i wouldnt think twice about 5 mins between heavy sets.the more weight i shift the bigger i get.if i want a great pump ill go swimming.good luck.

Yeah thats the same thing that i was thinking but i would like more opinions from more people and such.

my opinion is it depends on yourself during your gym session, the longer you are there the more fatigued your muscles will be so your rest time will probably get gradually bigger. you need to keep your intensity level up so you are working your ass off but give yourself just enough time to recover so you can lift a decent amount of weight. personally i break for about 3 mins, but it depends alot on how YOU feel.

yeah i usually break for about 2 min but this one day i only had 1 hour to do a usual 2 hour workout and i only rested for about 20 sec. and i have been sore now for about 3 days and i think it stopped me from lifting as much yesterday i usually do everything 6 reps 3 sets for every machine. But i went down yesterday to where i was 3 weeks ago. And i was wondering if its better to day that or have longer rest?
