IOC president Jacques Rogge criticized Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt on Thursday for showing a lack of respect to other competitors after his record-breaking gold medal performances in the 100 and 200 meters.

“That’s not the way we perceive being a champion,” Rogge said.

He did act like kind of a douche with the grandstanding. Phelps didn't hold up his hands at the end of his world records as if to say he was so much better than the others.

The guy is 21, young and cocky and has every right to be because he is the man right now, but obviously nobody taught him class.

I honestly thought his celebration was excessive. When Mo Green and his boys did a victory lap and jumped around for a while after they won the IOC said the same thing. It seems to be the US and Jamaica that do this. You don't see some barefoot Kenyans coming over after winning a marathon, pounding their chests, looking back and taunting people, and doing a yyyyyeeeeeaaaahhhhhh boyyyyyyyyyyyyeeeee pose by the timer do you?

Bolt didn't taunt anyone else, except by showing them a clean pair of heels. He just broke two WR's. He is number one...deal with it. Lance Armstrong showboated and he's a hero. I was way more by offended by the Greene crew wrapping the flag around their heads. Bolt didn't bother me at all. Basically how much taunting people will tolerate depends solely on how likable the person is. Phelps is likable. If he had done the same thing this wouldn't even be a story.

The NFL should suspend NFL Players also for celebrating in the end zone.

Nascar winners should be suspended for spouting champagne. That is so dispresctful towards those who didn't win.

This guy was a jerk, celebrating when he knew he wasn't an american and white. Who the hell did he think he was?

lol bro .. its funny because before they complained he celebrated before he won the 100m and said afterwards celebration would have been fine .. then he does that .. they complain because he danced AFTER winning 200m gold medal .. the man won 2 fucking gold medals and set records in both events ..focus on that

They do get penalized for excessive celebration.
 
This is retarded anyway......I only understand penalizing celebrations when they're "specifically" aimed at the loser in some sort of taunting fashion. As far as I saw, Bolt has done none of that. So what that he jogged across the line backward in the 100m, he still ran a 9.69 with his johnson hanging out and slung over his shoulder......the dude's a stud, he should have signed the record board with a sharpie as far as I'm concerned. None of his celebrating had anything to do with taunting his opponents. And as far as I know, none of them cared anyway cause A) they know they got their ass kicked

B) he didn't direct his celebration at any of them.


the dude's a kid, for sure.......but so what? He's the VERY BEST AT WHAT HE DOES, end of discussion. There isn't a single person on this board who is the very best in the world at what they do.......so none of us has any standing. The IOC is a joke, an athletic regulatory commission completely staffed by non athletes.......one giant clown party not to be taken seriously.
 
he is a kid who cares? all his competetion likes him off the track. he is best friends with an american he beat.

lol. If anything Bolt is modest. When asked why he held back on breaking the record in the 100 he said I wasn't concerned about that, winning was enough for me.

I can't stand the hype about Phelps either. People calling him the best athlete ever is like calling Tiger Woods the best athlete ever for having the most PGA wins in a single season.

I haven't heard anyone call him the best athlete ever. They've been saying the best Olympian ever any chance they get.I always thought decathletes were the nug of athleticism.

I saw nothing wrong with it. He's obviously a happy guy and was excited he won. He didn't disrespect anyone, just had fun celebrating. He had fun clowning around before every race as well. So what?

And yes Phelps did celebrate, not sure what Olympics people are watching. Screaming at the top of his lungs and flexing when they won that relay? Seemed pretty similiar without the dance moves but I guess he has no rhythm. Nobody said shit about that nor should they have. Phelps was excited they won a big race, so what?

no, if phelps did the same thing i would lose all respect for him and any other athlete that does that. when i played semi-pro football i absolutely hated the ones that would showboat like that. most of them sucked ass and did it to cover up the fact. i think it is amazing how fast the guy is but imop i think he has no class or sportsmanship. it has absolutely noting to do with the color of his skin. like i said if any athlete does the same thing i lose all respect for them. theres a reason it is not tolerated in football after scoring or making a good play. celebrating is one thing, taunting is completely different.

right off the top there's chad johnson who was fined $5000 for grabbing a news camera and waving it to the crowd after a touchdown....

if you believe showboating is a good thing in sports than there is something wrong with you.
