I do it pretty well. Don't make much, don't need much. My "bullshit expenses" are controlled very well (i.e. drinking, eating out all the time, small little stuff like a daily soda, etc.). I have a few expenses that I can't necessarily afford (i.e. motorcycle) but they all directly correlate to my healthy happiness. So no worries here.

howd you do it. did you just decide that you wouldnt spend money on things that you didnt REALLY need? was it tough? i cant really do that as of now...spend a LOT of money on little things

Uh...how is college a scam? The point of graduating and being up to your asshole in debt is that you will find a better, higher paying job that will allow you to pay off your debt and make more money in the future.

Reread my post. It's still a scam for most, because it takes a very long time for most to pay the loans off, and you end up paying probably double the principle after interest charges are accounted for unless you can afford to pay it off soon. Very few people end up with the career they want after graduating. In the very long run, sure it's eventually worth it. It all depends.

it's weird, cause I grew up in a upper-middle class family. We had some loot most of my life. And my pops wasn't afraid to spend it on me and my sister. By all means I should be a spoiled little shit (like my sister). But for some reason, I learned the real lessons that pops was teaching us - hard motherfucking work, respect, taking care of important things with your loot. Not sure why, but I was never a big spender. Don't get me wrong, I'm not cheap and I have been known to spend money some places other people wouldn't (restaurants for one), but overall I just see the bigger picture quite clearly. It wasn't intentional, it's just the way I ended up.

i was like that until about 5 years ago.

had 30K in credit card debt.

started in college when I had zero money and just kept getting worse.

I knew I was going to be making serious money within a few years though so it never bothered me.

I paid it all off and now have a huge surplus.
