liposuction - good or bad?

You guys are so quick to list all kinds of drugs to use for fat reduction and then you say Lipo is the "Easy Way" implying that it is in some way cheating. C'mon. Steroids, HGH, and all these other drugs are exactly the same thing except they are chemical and this is physical. In the long term, lipo is definately safer to the body and organs than the chemical options. I am not passing judgement on any of this. I have used steroids and I'm glad i did. Gave me (started at 155 lbs) a chance to get to 185 and I looked great. I am passing no moral judgements here. Just be honest about what you are doing. I believe that chemicals used under professional supervision (most of you guys have become armchair pharmacists) and surgery by qualified and skilled physicians - are all viable ways to achieve what we are trying to achieve here (which by the way, might not be such a lofty goal to begin with).

Anyway, my surgery looks fantastic. Only 6 days post-op and I finally have a tapered upper body. The abdoman is FLAT and the lovehandles are GONE. I am still puffy and swollen so I expect that it will look even better when the swelling goes down. I am BLOWN AWAY. It is the best thing I've done. I feel so relieved. No more fighting that bulge. As I said, I am not overweight. My BF is approx 12 to 15% unless you included my lower belly fold in the measurements. Then it WAS 22%. So now, no roll. No flab. My weight (fat) was stable before, so I have no reason to believe that I will get fatter now - AND i will be MORE motivated in my workout because I won't have that constant scrutiny and dissappointment about the belly during the workout.
I am going to start working out on Monday. Doc. said I could but obviously no abdomonals for 3 weeks. The muscles are starting to show through the swelling. I cant wait to do heavy abs in the gym and see what that looks like in a few weeks. So in summary - I am thrilled. There was a lot of fear and doubt before I did it but I'm glad I had the courage to go ahead with it.

Outstanding! I have the same problem and have been
thinking of lipo also. Please tell us how much it cost,
how you decided where to have it done, and anything
else we might need to know. Also, does it leave scars?

Well, I'm glad you didn't listen to all the boneheads who have nothing else to say except "Get your ass under the squats bar and heave until your head explodes!!" I hate people like that.

I don't see anything wrong with lypo.... my only concern would be that if you were a naturally overweight or obese person with bad diet, you'd gain the fat back in other places like chest and back.... but since you're healthy and lean anyway, you're fine.

I hope it all works well for you.

i'm 26 y.o. been working out for the last 2 years (i have never used steroids) i'm naturally lean, like 10% body fat but i've always had the "love handles" and a little fat covering the abs, i fell my abs are hard but can't be seen, but i can feel them hard. Even on the day i joined the gym in 2004 (i was 10kg lighter back then, i'm 170cm tall and 65kg right now, i have a thin bone structure, by thin i don't mean low bone density, i mean narrow boned) i had 10% body fat and had the love handles. i need lipo so my abs will show (they are developed and hard right there) and to get rid of the love handles.

nycfitguy please tell us what kind of lipo u got, there r different kinds, one called ultrasonic liposuction. and how long did the surgeon tell u to rest before going back to the gym to lift heavy weights?

I am looking at getting lipo (lower abs and handles) myself in the next month or so. I was told by the surgeon that I could go back to a normal routine within a few weeks. He had it done and was out mowing the lawn doing yard work the next day. I agree its not the lazy way out for some of us. Even when I was ultra lean, where you could see striations in my delts, even my damn platysma, you couldnt see my lower abs, just the seperation of my upper and mid. For me to completely get rid of that lower section, the rest of me would look like an Auswitz survivor.

Good for you for having the courage to get it done and congrats with the results.

He hasnt logged in since Sept 01 - Im sure some other people on here have had the procedure done

DOes anyone know what a procedure like this would cost? and again -- are scars present?
The cost will be between 5 to 10 thousand dollars depending on what kind you get..

I had a small amount of lipo done while I was living in Colombia.... My doc was from the USA.....but had an office in Bogota....flew back and forth 3 times per month.. anyway... I had always been in excellent shape... 175...very lean...could see my abs... but I had love handles that nothing would strip it away....diet....clen....T3....etc...

So 2K later....and now 3yrs later....its amazing...... and it wont come back.... I've strayed my diet for a few months here and there....and it didn't return in the lipo areas...nor in any new places....

I'll try and post some before and after pics.....

Very Bad. I had lipo done several years ago, and ended up with the dermis layer of my skin over my entire abdomen being eaten away. (the skin died, all 3 layers)This was due to any 1 or more of several things that were done wrong. The lipo instrument used was either used to agressively, or got to close to the skin, and/or to much solution was administered, or to much fat was removed at 1 time. The fact is that the blood supply to the skin was cut off and the skin died. This was determined in a law suit that took several years. I was bed ridden for a year, and had 3rd degree burns over my entire abdomen, and today horrible scaring remains. From my experience I tell anyone any elective surgery is a big mistake. And this was a very well known leader in the industry, he has written numerous articles, taught numerous professionals in this field and is considered a pioneer in lipo. Also while my lawsuit was going on, my attorney ended up with another case very similar to mine from the same very well known office. DONT HAVE LIPO, VERY BAD IDEA.
