Life after a Felony?

Alright here is the situation...I am 19 years old..about to turn 20...I was arrested for possession with intent to deliver...I was convicted of a class D felony or whatever the lowest one is...I served no jail time but I am on 4 years PAROLE...I am currently a student at West Virginia University...and i was just wondering is there even any point to my going to college?..because can I get any jobs?..if so whats the best major for me to go for?...I really wanted to do law school but I guess becoming a lawyer is out...is there ANY way of getting a felony erased if I stay completely out of trouble for my parole time?..

You mean you're on probation, parole is for people released early from prison. It's possible to get a felony expunged but you have to review your State laws on the matter, your county clerk of courts is the person to contact about the requirements for expungement. In Ohio, it's two years after you finish probation before you can file with your judge to have it expunged.

NO it definetly is parole...i was specifically told this and all my papers say Parole and not probation...basically if i fuck up even a little bit i go straight to jail...not like probation

Probation in Ohio means if you fuck up then you do your jail/prison time. Parole is through the actual penitentuary system in Ohio while probation only comes from a judicial order. Regardless, check with your clerk of courts about expungement.
 
it happened in Pennsylvania and thats where im a resident...but i live in West Virginia now since I go to WVU and WV is where my parole is from...if i cant get it expunged what major should I look into so I can actually make some money after I get outta school so I dont gotta be a criminal
 
Bro, probation is the same as parole. You fuck up and you are gone.

However, if you are filed under the first offender program and you complete your probation/parole like you are suppose and no trouble, your records will be sealed. That means that the only people who know your records are law enforcement officers. The record will not show up on regular background checks.

Keep your nose clean.
 
i was convicted in PA...and they never said anything about a first time offender program...plus i was in trouble before when i was a minor
 
Well, I know Winona Ryder was convicted of 2 or 3 felonies over the shoplifting incident. She completed her community service and all of her probation requirements and they reduced her convictions to misdemeanors after about 2 years. Possibly PA has some sort of reduction program like that but I don't know. That's a question that would probably be best answered by a criminal defense lawyer licensed in PA.

On the flip side, make the best of your college years by staying clean. Go for whatever degree you want. You might have a more difficult time finding employment, but I would still think it highly likely that you will find a job even with a record. You can always explain that away by saying you were really young and did something stupid but you've been an excellent student that's lived a clean life since then.
 
but thats the thing...being a lawyer is what i really want to do..and its impossible with a felony on my record...i have no idea what else i want to do..i am a pretty smart person..i know ill graduate college with at least a 3.6 GPA

Is the conviction an automatic disqualifier to sit for the bar exam? If so, that does suck. Kind of like myself. I wanted to be an airforce pilot at one time and then I found out you had to have spectacular vision without correction. Alas, I was blind as a bat without glasses and had to give up that idea.
 
yes..unless I can get the felony expunged then i cannot become a lawyer...i guess you cannot become any kind of "professional" career with a felony

ya i was caught with a felony amount of pot...its rediculous because if i had been in pittsburgh i would of gotten a slap on the wrist..but since im in a small town they made an example of me

$400 for an oz? You must be talking about some high quality shit for that much money. Regs cost anywhere from $80-$100 depending on your connection
 
only real job i think would be professional sports..one more felony guy won't make a difference...

well just don't let your WVU know, cause if they do, they could/will expel you.....for not having good character as a student....

basically you can't get a govt job, finance, acct, maybe even IT/computer related job either....of course you can be hired, but once the background check comes back, they will escort you that day and you are terminated...have seen it done at my job...

Wrong, to the best of my knowledge from the law board. As long as you give full disclosure and show a change/maturation of character between now and then, you shouldn't have a problem. But there's always numerous little details...

If you have graduated college with a good GPA and no legal issues your chances of clearing up your record are a hell of a lot greater than if you are doing nothing with your life!

most law enforcement agencies know this, and can tell the difference between brown town and dank. a pound is hardly a slap on the wrist in any juristiction, especially with intent...


regardless, i agree that i'd rather deal with it all WITH a degree, and not give up on making legal money only to be a criminal. that's a BS excuse and would show weakness if it's the route you go. personally, i'd take a good long look into business related careers...

Wow you guys pay rediculous amounts of money for pot...in my town the highest you pay is $30 for an 1/8th...and thats the high high quality stuff...cuz the people know people arent gonna pay anymore...I dont know where you guys are living...and the pound only cost me a little over $500...i had an EXCELLENT connection...and yes the pot was fantastic...the police told me it was the highest THC content ever tested in the area...it was the greenest sticky of the icky...but can we please go back to the original question..thank you

ya guy... when you buy in bulk u arent gonna pay the price for every 8th.... also the cops will always over adjust everything too.... livn in phx and in LA ..an 8th is about 50 dollars... give or take...

Ya man stay in school! Don't throw your life away over what happened. If anything, you should be working harder to get on track. I went to pris when I was 19, and I did 3 1/2 years before they let me out on parole. You should be thankful you only got probation. Just keep chugging, and maybe one day you'll be able to get it taken off your record. Besides, you can still do tons of stuff with a felony. I'm on my last year of undergrad before I go to grad school for neuroscience. I am confident that I will have a successful career even though I have a felony.

A felony is not a death sentence, unless you let it be.

Go to school, graduate, and move on with your life. Your chances for expungment go way way up if you demonstrate a departure from criminal behavior and a turn toward being a law-abiding, productive member of society.

But in Texas I don't think you could get it expunged. I ask my attorney about it yesterday feel bad for this orb. But he said in Ohio you possible could.

He told me of another story that was really sad. This dude was a second year law studentl at UT with really good grade and tried to buy a gun in south texas. The problem was he was on probation in New Jersey for something I beleive it was just a misdeamenor too. Any the stupid gun shop narced him out and he got 5 years in the fed pen for that.

its funny with weed prices.. in cali the stanard is:

$20 a gram
$60 1/8

But of course if you buy larger quantities, you get a discount.

A gram of high quality shit can run $300 - $400

pound is usually $2000 to $4000, it honestly just depends on how high up on the food chain you are getting it. Many of the big shops in Southern Cali will only deal with orders for 1 oz or greater.. at those places you get the best prices because they aren't fucking around with gram bags and shit like that.
