Lets hope your bench doesnt end like this

Ouch.....The only way that could happen is by benching with the thumbs not around the bar. Either that or his thumbs snapped like toothpicks.

After watching it again it is clear that his thumbs did snap.

Ya that is ouchy... saw that last time it was posted...

and months later still hurt to watch.. the sound was cameras.. not ribs

Dam, guess I'm glad I can't BP 600+lbs. :). Can't blame the spotters really, who the hell fails at that point?? I can see not getting it off your chest, but just touching your chest and losing it that fast is kinda weird. He must have had a bad wrist or thumb. At least its better then if he had dropped it from a few inches higher. Wonder what happened to him.

I was interested in what happened to him and noticed you can turn on comments on that page. Most of them are pretty lame, but some of the interesting ones are:

- it was more than 600lb
- it was Steve Wong benching 823lb
- sound was from the cameras, not his ribs or thumbs breaking
- it was Steve Wong, 832lb, 2nd attempt, no injuries, got it on his 3rd attempt
- the guy is Gene Rychlak
- it might have come down that fast because his bench shirt tore

So, a bit inconclusive really.
