Legendary Johnny Unitas

I'll mourn you 'til I join you!

**Pours some of his forty on the ground**

Johnny U was great athleticly and as a person, a good role model but the best football player of all time? i dont know about all of that

You have to compare greatness by someones peers in their era.
So in this case, Unitas was the best in the game period. Same can
be said of Namath in the late 60's-early 70's, didn't reach his peak
because of injuries and an aging Jets team, he threw what I think
to this day was the best ball of any quarterback of any generation.

I knew him when I lived in Baltimore. He was so nice. A decent unpretentious guy, like your favorite uncle or neighbor. His wife was just as earthy and nice as him.

I agree with Calypso,

Johnny U was the greatest of his time, but not of all time. If you had a time machine and put Elway, Montana, Young, Moon, Farve and maybe Marino..... in the game at that time, and they'd blow him away.
