Legal advice (busted in texas)

Ok, My post about being busted in texas got me to call Rick Collins. I can't afford an attorney and his consultation as a student. I decided to just pay the fine which will be around $100-400 because I already knocked a lot off the fine with my 3 days in jail. Here's my question-- You guy's may have heard of the immediate federal sentencing guidelines that are coming down hard on steroid users. 1 dbol pill now is as illegal as like 50 of them or something outragoues like that! I'm wandering if the new laws will affect my case?? It shouldn't as I was arrested before this shit was brought through congress. Any experts know this.
BTW-- my case isn't federal, it is state!

You got it right. First of all, If i'm not mistaken the law you are talking about hasn't even been passed yet, so you're cool. And even if it has, the offense you were charged with happened prior the anmendments. However, I'm not aware of the penalties according to the texas statutes.

Are you awaiting a trial or what kind of penalty did u get? Parole, jail time, fines? Keep us posted.

I'm sorry bro, i was just reading throughout the whole story of yours. I'm familiar with customs, border patrols and shit, especially in texas. Let me see if i got this straight. Before you enter into U.S territory, is the 1st checkpoint at right at the border. This 1st checkpoint is covered by homeland security staff and they check your ID and may search the car. This one was no problem. The 2nd checkpoint is about 20 maybe 30 some miles inland as you're driving in the interstate. If I'm not mistaken this 2nd checkpoint is covered by border patrol and customs but this checkpoint is not as tough as the 1st one and you went through with no problem. Then, u kept driving and some hundred miles further down the road a highway patrol pulled you over?
Why did he pull you over? Were you speeding or committ a traffic violation or what? Then, I'm guessing the cop either asked you if you would let him do a search in your car or just ran the dog to smell you car, either way the dog didn't detect it. Then according to your story, all the cop had to believe there was something wrong was the hat and your buddy telling him lies about his criminal record.
How did the cop found the gear? I don't think he could unless you have surrendered the gear to him.

I think it was an arbitrary search that even a public denfender should be aible to bring down

yeah, a tag light was out on my truck, but I agree. Everything happened in that order, and I didn't give permission for the search. thanks. Im going to get a public defender. I just wish it wasnt so dam far away. It's 10 hrs to go to court, and I don't want to be going several times for a trial if you know what I mean.

So what happened. I'm a little freaked out myself coz I'm waitin for some gear to show up. Naturally I'm not wantin to flush my medical career down da drain for a fed felony.

For him to legally search your vehicle there had to be probable cause(ex a syringe/vials in plain view on the back seat). I wonder if being muscular would be probable cause these days? I've heard of guys wearing a dope leaf earing and the cops using that as probable cause to search a person's vehicle before. That's almost the same thing.

Wow, if this country ever gets bad enough where they can search you for being muscular, Im moving someplace else.

Advisor_X was right on the money! 6 months Probation and fine, but not really all that simple. Fine to court $300. Pay probation cost for 6 months in texas AND Oklahoma. Really bullshit. Anyway, supposed to have drug test and counseling possible? Judge never mentioned this as part of the deal. See.. In this county you can plead guilty to see offer, than if you don't like.. you can plead innocent.

Hope it never happens again. I've never been searched in oklahoma. Damn!
