Leg training anr running

I have recently decided to train my legs 2x week. I also run around 15 miles a week, I was wondering if I should just keep it to 1 workout or if 2 is allright. I am traning for speed on my runs, which are usually 3 miles in length, currently I run around 7 min. mile over 3 miles, and am looking to better this. Would the extra leg workouts hinder this?
 
I think if anything, leg workouts would benefit you, mainly pressing exercises though. I would suggest light to moderate weight squats, lunges, and leg curls. go easy on the weight, but enough to work the muscle in 10-15 rep sets. just my two cents...
 
what kind of results are you seeing??if it ain't broke don't fix it...you can do legs once a week and still see gains.
 
Both of the above points are very good. If you are overly sore and progress starts in hinder I would ease up on the leg training, and focus on your runs, but as the mann said if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Thanks for the input. My legs have been hurting quite a bit while running so I will probably go to once a week leg training.
 
just a thought here, if you have the endurance already, why not cut down on the running by half and work heavy on the legs for a while. you will lose a little endurance for the time being, but when you reach your goal as far leg strength goes, you could cut down on the leg workouts and work on getting your endurance back, which shouldn't be too hard for ya.

right on cman. I just know this by experience. I love running but I haven't ran in soo long. it has been around 4 months? but defintely, working out your legs heavy, and going on a light run is awesome. it doesn't seem like your legs are working as hard as they used to after a heavy leg workout when runnning. yeah, I also can't seem to kick anyone down wif karma as well. I guess you gotta acquire some from someone that has a lot of karma first before you start giving out.

My run schedule/mileage and times are almost identical to yours. I do try to get some sprints in once a week, and I do legs once a week - on Friday. I go heavy on squats, leg presses, calf raises and stiff-legged deadlifts, then I rest all weekend.
