that page has some real interesting info, take the time to pick thru it.
quite a propaganda machine against tobacco...seemingly clouding the facts.

you mean with it listed as COD, or do you have to probe around in the mouths?

I clean the oral cavity and set the features which includes securing the teeth together to form a natural appearance and keep the mouth closed
I'd know if a guy had mouth cancer

Gotcha. I wonder if it's more common around here. I see a lot of workman type dudes in gas stations buying "dip".

mouth cancer is more commonly caused by those who smoke tobacco
mouth cancer rates for "dippers" appear to be equal to those who don't use tobacco...

i used smokeless tobacco to quit cigarettes.
i tried the gum and patch........no dice.
read a book written by an oncologist
university of alabama at birmingham. he
used smokeless tobacco to wean his patients
off cigarettes.

he had studied / treated thousands of cases of
mouth cancer. not one single case attributable
to smokeless tobacco.

he argues that the carcinogens in tobacco are
released during combustion and he asserts
smokeless tobacco is innocuous. he goes on to
explain how the " anti tobacco zealots" bunched
smokeless with cigarettes, much like the feds
handled the controlled substance act of 1970.
( placing LSD , marijuana and heroin in the same
class )

nicotine is a widely studied drugs and has
been found to be relatively safe but very
very addictive. so addictive in fact, that when
certain individuals imbibe, their nicotine site
receptors are permanently altered and they
never function at optimum without it! it is
next to impossible for these folks to quit.

bottom line:

nicotine and tobacco are harmless. it's the
delivery system that kills ppl. ( smoking )

I chewed for over a decade (off and on). I quit yet didn't want to.

I quit because I do not want to get mouth cancer. I really enjoyed it.

I admire the posts here, but I find it hard to believe chew does not cause mouth cancer. I do realize there is anti-tobacco propaganda out there but I have seen guys with the missing jaws and surgical scars from chewing. Perhaps they are the same unlucky fellows that have the same chance of getting mouth cancer as non-chewers but I cannot believe that.

I am objective though - I need to read some solid studies before I change my mind.

I'll check out the site posted. So far I have yet to see an empirical study cited on the site (I will keep looking).

Bevins said he did not realise the woman with mouth cancer in the new ad was actually an actress and suggested some viewers might feel hoodwinked when they became aware of it.

Drawing a causal connection from individual incidents is not rigorous science so really those articles above mean nothing to me.

I am still looking for empirical evidence that people who chew tobacco have the same incidence of mouth cancer as those that do not chew tobacco.

massaging plant material in your mouth isn't near as foreign as inhaling smoke

and nicotine's a very beneficial drug
it is? Tell me more. I never heard this and am curious.

I grew up on a farm that grew, among other things, tobacco. As an aside, my grandfather did get cancer on his lip, but I'm not sure if it was caused by chewing tobacco. He did chew and sometimes dip. However, he also got skin cancer and cancer runs in my family, so it could have just been hereditary.
