Has anyone had any experience with this vision correcting surgery? My eyesight is awful and I'm getting tired of putting in and taking out contacts all the time. Besides, I'm told I'll actually save money in the long run by getting eye surgery vs. buying contacts for the rest of my life.

So... I already know the story "disclaimer-wise," now I'm looking for it experience-wise.

What kind of results have you/your friends seen?

How much $$$?

Side effects?

Pre/post-operation process? Duration? Vision re-deterioration over time?

???

Any comments appreciated.

You're just mad about the fact that no matter how bad my vision is, your old fart vision is 10x worse. bwahahaha

I have two family members and one friend who did it. I've been considering it myself for some time. All say it's the best thing they've ever done. They went right home after the procedure, something like a minute per eye, plus prep time, short recovery time and all that. You're functional within a day, although your eyes are irritated and sensitive for a few days.

I've seen ads for as low as $500 per eye. Prices are coming down. But personally, I wouldn't go cheap here. Not like you're buying a couch or something.

If I remember correctly, your eyes will eventually deteriorate over time, which will happen anyway. But the procedure delays that process for many years.

a friend of mine had it done. $2500 per eye in AZ

He was at the end of the vision scale (almost too blind for the procedure). He couldn't wear contact lenses for a week prior (I think).

Procedure took 2 minutes. He wore blinders for a day (supposed to be longer) but he could see instantly. And slept in them for a while.
Used a saline rewetting solution for comfort.

He has 20/15 vision now (1.5 yr later). No night blindness or "stars"

Make sure you pupils are not TOO large (mine are) you will not have good results (stars)

good luck :)

Had mine done 3 years ago.

Left eye: 20/80
Right eye: 20/200

Corrected to...
Left eye: 20/15
Right eye: 20/20

Had to take 4 eye exams over a 3 month period, including one the day of the surgery. Minimum age is 25 (by then your prescription should be fairly stable). Pop a Valium, get 50 eye drops per eye, sit back, stare at a blinking red light, and 5 minutes later you're done. The corrected vision is immediate.

Have someone drive you home and sleep the rest of the nite.

The next day, typically, your eyes are 90% healed. Avoid smokey environments for a week and nothing strenuous (no lifting).

Only side effect - which has lessened over the 3 years - is a halo effect around lights at nite.

Price: $1500/eye

Highly recommend it.

LOL!!!

There is a thread that Cornholio started a few weeks ago look for it to further your info. I'm having it done in february. Tired of the contacts thing.

If you are a good canidate. Then do it. I did the ole fashion RK and I would still even have that procedure done if they didn't come out with this new one. It is bad ass you wake and you can see with out put unconfortable ass plastic in your eye.

DO IT WARIK and stop pussy foot'n around. :D

Have it done bro! The doctor should give you a free evaluation to see if you are a good candidate. Having this surgery was the best money I ever spent. My vision was 20/400 before the surgery. After the surgery I am 20/15! That result is not typical, but almost everyone gets to at least 20/30. My surgery cost 2000 dollars per eye. If you have any questions, feel free to pm me.

The drawback no one talks about.....

It takes 500 procedures to develop skill in an Opthamoligist. You do NOT want to be patient 1-499.

If and when you develop cataracts in your old age, they will not be able to measure the corneal curtavure. So when the lens is inserted behind the cornea, if you have had lasik, the outcome will be uncertain. It might be ok, might not.

Plus if you develop nearsightedness later on in life, no correction will be possible, meaning that you will have tremendous problems reading anything.

On the other hand, it does work.

You just have to make the decision whether the risks outweigh the benefits, its your choice.

I was considering this but I didn't hear nearly as many positive reports as I'm reading here, so I opted out. My partner also was considering it and instead is using a new system where you wear contacts at night. They correct your vision by reshaping the eye and you don't need glasses during the day.

Good post. My optometrist told me this the other day when I inquired about it. She suggested I quit masturbating instead. Needless to say I shot that down, so to speak.
