It's so cheap now. Only 990$ total cost for both eyes and you can pay it out. I'm gonna have to do it, been wearing contacts for many years.

Sucks getting old. I never had glasses until I hit 40. Now I can't read without them.

Regarding your post....Cheaper isn't always best. You have to really trust a doctor to mess with your eyes. The way my luck runs, I would definitely have complications. Like the vasectomy I had that took two times to get it right and missed three months of work.

Ouch! Yeah, it's cheap everywhere now. I would only go to one of the best for a procedure like that, but I read that complications are very rare, you get 20/20 vision or your money back.

considering it

i always never wore glasser or contacts and i have shity eyes

just dealed with it

no way was i gonna sport rec specs back in the day

I had it done and I still wear glasses. I was very bad though. It depends on how your eyesightis before the procedure. If you`re not that bad, you`ll do fine.

I had it many years ago too, It was $6000. damn... lol It was still the laser surgery, but there might be a newer procedure than the one I did, now.

Best move ever. Had it done over 5 years ago back when it was a little over $1k per eye.

Figure I have saved at least 3/4 of that since then on: optometrist visits/checkups, spare glasses, contacts, cleaning solutions. But most importantly - free of headaches and worries.

Only some slight halo effect at nite with street lights, but a small price to pay for carefree vision that's better than 20/20.

I got a pair of black sport glasses for baseball when I was a Freshman in highschool.. The first day I wore them, my teammates called me poindexter. That was the last day I ever wore them. lol Had a pair of rec specs also. I think I wore them for a week. I looked like a freak in them.

thanks you've been a great crowd

Actually.... most doctors recommend getting one eye done at a time. Just in case of any complications with the surgery (this is most likely in the pass as the procedure has no doubt become more routine and refined).

But thanks for the input. Keep swinging - you'll hit something eventually.

I've had it done awhile back when it was 2k per eye. It was the best damned 4k I spent that year. I have never regretted it since and have no idea what this halo effect that people are bitching about.

I've been looking into it biteme, Dr tylock(sp?) and Dr Boothe.

They told me the average cost is $1,500. Not alot, but more than the $995.00 that they advertise.

I have heard that even though it was a lot of comfort you would not see as well as with your glasses....

Tell me about it. I went straight from no correction to bifocals at age 43. I need a new scrip, but I've been to lazy. I've had to step up the strength of my reading glasses twice after the bifocals stopped being enough.

Is the laser surgery good for presbyopia? Don't the eyes continue to deteriorate as they age? If someone with presbyopia got laser surgery now, then wouldn't he or she need it again in a few years?

Dr. Booth, you've been hearing the same commercial. A guy at the gym told me that he had it done for $995 total cost.

I only hear it for myopia

Some of us only need correction in one eye. In my case, the left one, which used to be normal, is slowly getting worse due to presbyopia; the right one is so farsighted and astigmatic, and always has been, that my brain pretty much just ignores it. If I close the right eye, it doesn't make much if any difference in what I see. I probably don't have proper stereopsis either. If both eyes are corrected, I get headaches and occasional double-vision, so we just correct the good eye and ignore the bad one.

4 yeras have passed since I had lasik done.My vision slowly regressed over the years, but only slightly(maybe about 10 points from 20/20 after the surgery).Back then I paid 1,800.00 per eye.Well worth every cent.

i have heard friends rave about this surgery but also know a couple people who had serious complications. one lady had a portion of her eyeball sliced off after the machine malfunctioned. it f'd up her vision but it is supposed to return but will take weeks to months. sorry, this surgery looks too creepy and scary. i will just suffer with contacts and glasses.

in a related topic i am getting eyelid surgery to correct prematurely droopy eyelids in a couple weeks. this is called ptosis and should not be happening to a guy my age. the surgery will be performed by an opthamologist here in san diego at a well known eye clinic that also does a lot of lasik.

this procedure is often performed by a plastic surgeon. it is sort of like an upper eye job, but my insurance is covering because it has the potential to affect my vision someday. people often tell me i look tired. the surgery should take care of that. :)

My price included surgery for life, whenever I needed it. I told them I was`nt happy with the correction, they examined me again and said I was no longer a candidate for surgery. lol

I`m making them out like bad guys... they`re not. That`s just the way my eyes are, they can`t change that. They are good doctors.

It depends on how bad your eyes are I guess. I don't give a fuck, I'm getting the surgery as soon as my retirement check comes in. :supercool

Had it done in december. Love it, 20/15 vision and no pain ever. The procedure is a little odd, since you dont usually have people poking around on your eyes, but painless. Paid around 3k. There are a couple places that claim 995, but that is for people with near perfect eyesight already. Astigmatism and other stuff gets added on top of that price. I called around to a few places and it was all around 2-3k for my eyes. 2 other family members had it done and no problems at all with any of them. Best thing I ever did, go for it!

Dont worry about the stories about people getting their eye sliced up. There are prolly a tenth of the problems there are with any other surgery, it is just that lasik is a newer procedure and therefore people are more critical of it.

Was considering it until I got these damn ulcers...I hope I'll be able to have it done once everything has healed up. The cheapest I've heard of in my area is $1500.00 per eye...

Yes. lol I don`t know the techinicals of the numbers, but I was -16 pre-op, now I`m -2.5 or -4 (?) I think that`s 20/40 or 50... and wear very thin glasses. Not sure if I was able to achieve better. If I wore glasses at -16, they would be about 1/2 inch thick. lol

I`ve always wore contacts. Now I also have the halo effect at night.

Personally I wouldn't go to a doctor who only charges $1,000. If I'm going to get a risky surgery done I'm gonna pay for the BEST!! I'm getting mine done at Emory for $4800 but I'm going to get a discount for being part of Blue Cross Blue Shield. Keep in mind this is not for the traditional Lasik surgery. I'm getting Custom Wavefront Lasik done which is the latest technology. It is better because improves a patient's overall vision quantity and quality by, one, eliminating the lower order aberrations of nearsightedness, and astigmatism, and two, by reducing, or at least not increasing, higher order aberrations. Wavefront greatly reduces the likelihood of creating night vision or contrast sensitivity problems.

the halo effect around lights at night isn't normal?

That's what I thought too, so I went when the cost was high. The only problem is that you can't always equate high prices with quality.
