Ladies, is "ma'am" insulting?

Was out Xmas shopping yesterday. While in line, I informed the woman ahead of me that her infant child had ejected his or her pacifier onto the floor. To get her attention, I called her "ma'am," although she wasn't more than a couple years older than I am. Was that bad?

Physically? No. But I got a look. Ooooooh, I got a look alright.

no

i wouldnt have thought ma'am is something a young woman would be pissed at

but if she looked at you funny maybe you should stick to ms. from now on

that or it was the 'wanna make more babies' look and you mistook it :D

Whenever someone calls my mom that she gets offended and says it makes her feel "old"...then I say, "but mom you are old, get over it!" Then she gets upset, geez I'm just being honest...

No it's not rude.

However sometimes we (women) don't want to admit our age and "ma'am" is a BIG slap in the face of reality.

Warik: "Excuse me, ma'am."

Woman: "Please don't call me ma'am."

Warik (politely): "Well, what would you like to be called?"

Woman: "Miss or *whatever the fuck name was on her tag*"

Warik: "Oh, alright. Sorry ma'am."

She got pissed. I was amused.

I don't see anything wrong with that.
Of course I will open the door for a lady also, and yes,
I have gotten that same look for doing that.

I still do it though, because it's the right thing to do.:)

Never apologize for having manners..........you did right.

I agree 100%!

I have NEVER gotten insulted by being addressed in this fashion. REGARDLESS of my age - it is about RESPECT.

JESUS, some women need to be bitch-slapped!

"Bitch" is the universal term of respect used throughout the finer cultures of the world.
