Knee joint pain and Glucosamine

Tonight, I'm going to start taking 500 mg Glucosamine plus 500 mg MSM daily for knee pain. Do any of you have such problems and are using glucosamine? If so, how much? 500/500 is what is suggested on the back of the bottle. I didn't know if I should pump up the volume.

From what I've seen/heard 1500mgs, is what I've been told would be better, I also have seen it in liquid at jeffers pet supply @5000mg a serving might be cheap that way.

the supp itself is ok, a lot of studies to back it up. basically the initial response it to hydrate the cartilage and shelter it from damage, the only thing is how to absorb it through the gut since it is a big molecule. my prof was saying try to take it with a sugar to promote shuttling efects of insulin and on an empty stomach. I think it one of the few products that works, but not as much as some people claim...

hope this helps, the dosage you use is a little light, 750 was recommend by literature if I remeber right, good luck

remeber to warm-up thouroughly, and the joints that hurt need movement to supply nutrients, so if my elbow hurt due to benching I would take glucosamine and move it frequently during the day to help ther cartilage, and warmup greatly before any excercise to allow fluid to move into the area to provide cushioning

Definately.

maybe, but look at the absorption rate and type, if that is what they recommend then go for it if you like. I like about 1000 myself

Pwr_machine, have you heard anything on this, Ipriflavone. I got a bottle the other day to try it out. Casual BB posted a link about a bunch of supps a while ago, and this came from the hst forums. "Ipriflavone may really help if you need actual tendon effects. Ipriflavone decreases catabolism of collagen proteins which, over time should help to strengthen tendons/ligaments.

It is important to remember that your problem may not be the strength of your tendons or ligaments, but the length of them. Sometimes injuries can altern the length of ligaments and tendons, causing laxicity (looseness) in the joint. Sometimes this is called subluxation. You can't fix this without surgery to shorten the ligaments.

Scar tissue can also cause pain where a tendon slides against the surface of a joint or bone. "

I was watching the Brian Scoonvield (sp) training videos last night and he was showing something that he bought at the Feed Supply store that had TONS of that stuff and other good stuff in it. It was like $30 bucks and he said that he loves it...even cherry flavored.
