Knee injury

harbinator

New member
I just got back from the doc after having some MRIs done. He says that my knee will only get worse with time but all he could really do is smooth out the back of the kneecap which still wouldn't resolve the problem.

He says as far as leg excercises to do "rebound squats" going down 50% instead of 90% parallel. My knee only hurts when it is bent for long periods of time or under great stress. Does anyone know of any other leg excercises that can be done that are compound movements that help build the core? Im not really looking to build leg mass since they are already large enough (hard to find pants that fit in the thighs) but Id still like to be able to do squats/deadlifts to help build overall body strength.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,

he wants to shave under your knee cap? is this removing some of the fat pad?

what exactly is wrong with your knee ? do you have scar tissure in there, or have you had a surgery in the past?

No he said there were bone fragments from the back of my kneecap inside the knee joint, the only time it really bothers me is in movie theaters/planes etc...

No surgery, I did have the knee give out on me at one point when I was 310lb, I have a messed up left ankle too so I put more weight on my right leg naturally here is a picture of my left ankle. http://mywebpages.comcast.net/hayrab/jonankle.jpg

I just think my legs are too f'ed up to work them, which makes me sad I can't hit legs at all in the gym without extreme pain.

Chiropractor for knees?

I was in a car wreck for the ankle, didnt break any bones but the bone that normally sticks out of the sides of your ankle I think its called the Talus, shot out of my ankle tearing all the ligaments and tendons. Long walks or long periods of standing up make it swell badly but Im able to function daily with it.

Its mainly just my knees that are preventing me from working legs. Id love to work them since they are the natural genetic gift on my body but I can't find a way without pain so far.

Chiros address muscle and nerve problems.. problems stat at the feet and work there way up.. YOu knee problems could be caused from in balances.. in your frame..

IMO ....
If you just have fragments floating around the structure, I'd have them removed. They may cut up the ligaments later. These damn fragments have sharp edges.

As for alternative excerises ...
(1) 20 minutes of warm up on the stationary bike, light load
(2) 4 X 8 leg extensions ... slow ... ascending weights
(3) 4 x 8 leg press, any version

You said your legs were plenty big so all you need to do is burn the quads.

Hamstrings?
3 X 12 hammy curls ... laying
3 x 12 hammy curls ... standing
Nice and steady ... up...down

Calves?
3 x 12 seated ... hold at top
3 x 12 standing ... hold at top

Again ... you have large legs so you are looking for a nice burn here.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I can't really do regular leg press without pain but I am able to somewhat do hack squats.

Last time I had measurements I had 29" thighs, 19" calves I am still a little overweight tho around 20% bf so some it is most likely fat, but hell my calves are much bigger than my arms lol.

I think I may go see a Chriopractor because I do have weird leg frame I guess Im somewhat double jointed in the knees because I can lock my legs out and my knees will stick out in the back farther than the back of my foot (sounds gross and looks gross) which is bad if I were to accidently lock my knee on a leg press or something my leg might break in half, its something that even when I think about it I cringe and almost have nightmares about it.

Look for a Chiro that has the CCEP or CCSP certification.

Those guy's are THE best, trained by Kevin Hearon.

I'm one by the way. CCEP

Are you gonna get your DC?

I left the field, it's a shitty business in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong I like the adjusting...

Fucking lack of respect, haggling with the insurance companies.

I sell insurance now.

I was going to Emory MD school but, I ran out of money.

Yes i will going into the D.C. I have heard that a few times so i do expect a little.. I think i will do good.. Times are changing .. little by little.

hm..

i injured my knee while i was in the army, from a parachuting accident. bad landing.. i didnt impact on my knee tho, i landed on the foot.. but the impact sorta travelled up to my knee and fucked it up.. i cant run long distances or do strenuous exercises now...

ive been to a specialist.. went for an MRI scan and an X-ray. but he says the results shows no real problem.. so he suggested i go for an op and insert 2 scopes inside to have it checked out .. but i decided against that. didnt have enough money to pay for physiotherapy so i sorta just stayed away from strenuous running.

im hoping to get back the strength in my knee.. anyone has any solutions?

ya.. i torn my ACL in my left knee 4 years ago. I did not have much of a problem but i couldn ot straiten it out all the way.. or 100 %.. But the truth of the matter is.
unless is brake or something they can tell for sure on an X ray. and when i got my MRI they said i may have an ACL tear. but they would not know for sure. untell they did a scope. " what you were talking about." it is like 3 rodes the put in your knee with a camera. so they can see exactly what is wrong with it.

They told me they would to one to see for sure the damage. and if the ACL was torn they would go ahead and repair it.. instead of waiting for the scope to heal.. and then comming back and having surgery do it all in one..

so what i learned from that.. was if you have a problem they won't really know anything unless they do a scope. the MRI is kind of a waste of money because all it does it tell them to do a scope..

i suggest 1st going to a good Chiro... on like stated above. the are joint and nerve specialists..

after than i say go with the scope.. if you would like to one day return to running..

but also depends on age and things.. and willing ness for rehab..

Spend the money on physical therapy, if you get no relief do the scope. I have had 8 knee surgeries, 2 ACL reconstructions and a cartilige transplant. I'm a very active person and wanted to get back to my usual. My physical therapist was the guy that made it happen. My MD is a god as well, knows his shit, but when it came down to it my PT was behind me all the way. He worked with athletes only, this really helped, he understood my mind and new how to bring out the fighter in me. It was tough, no lie. 2 years of rehab and 1 full year on crutches.
I could give you a million little exercises to do at home to strengthen the supporting muscle tissues, but if somethig is torn in your miniscus or cart, no amount of exercises will help to heal the pain/swelling during exercise.
I had a small tear in my Trochlea that didnt show up on an MRI. Scope found it, three weeks later I was on the table again with the first of my transplant surgeries... works perfect now, I just have lots of pretty scars, I tell people I go bit by a shark.

I am going to see the ortho thursday. Do they Make you have an MRI? cause i just want it scoped. I know if they do the MRI they will scope it anyway seems like a waste.

MRI? Depending upon your symptoms. There are a few diagnostic tests they will do in the office on the table usualy for ligament instability. Torn ligaments usually have acute swelling pain pressure bruising. Miniscus usually pain, not a huge amount of acute swelling, more chronic swelling, chronic pain usually during activity then swelling after, sometimes locking and snapping. Chrondrmalacia, is a whole nother story.

They CAN see a limited amount of cartilage in an xray. Usually an MRI is done before the knife due to the insurance game, but if you do not have insurance, talk to him/her about keeping your cost down. Be firm with your MD, don't let them pressure you into anything. Wish you the best!

Yes this was what i was wondering was about the insurance thing.
does your insurance usually require it. or does the doc do it for more money :D..
I will find out tomorrow.

ok going to have a scope .. no MRI .. he said he will do it under local anesthetic so i dont have to be put to sleep. He said i can watch :D that should be neet.

I be a skier, minus 2 meniscus, one MCL and repaired one ACL. If the MRI is done properly, it will show the damage and the Ortho people can see it.

Sounds to me like the start of Arthritus under the knee cap. Chill on major weight and stress, and see if it reduces swelling an pain. If not, talk to the doc about the scrape and how long it will last. Scarping is a 1 hour job in arthroscopic and will not hinder you afterward except for the fluid on the knee. Only trouble is, it may continue to re-occur and you will have to do this again.

If lucky, maybe you just have an old injury and the scrape will clean it out. If so, your knee will be good as new.

BTW, my ACL replacement is stronger than the original knee ever was. Used the hamstring as my work has me squating and kneeling alot. Patela leaves scar tissue in the front of the knee.
