part of the problem is the lack of quality, upscale high-rise living. i'm no expert, but it seems like all the most expensive places in the best areas have sub-standard construction and design. this is based on complaints here and there which i've read online...thin walls, narrow parking spaces, poor heating/cooling, etc.

i don't want to spend $2000 for a place with all those faults. i can't even afford that, really, but maybe 1700-1800 for a good apartment in a good building. but i'll probably end up spending 1400-1600 for a 1br in a small building in a quiet neighborhood.
