Yes, it went excellent. Microdiscectomy at the L4/L5 level, on both sides. Only took about 2 hours. Was out of the hospital the next afternoon.
The goal is to be 100% eventually. It will be a loooong road back with lots of PT and patience on my part, but coming back BETTER than before is the ultimate goal here.
Long-term issues? Hopefully not. Percentage wise, the biggest long-term concern would be the disc herniating again at some point, but we'll cross that bridge if I ever come to it.
Yes, I will be able to lift heavy again. I honestly don't know about squatting or maybe even DLing, but that is not of concern to me. I don't have an ego and I am not a PLer, so no big issues there. The immediate goal is to recover 100% and not overdo it. Then get back on track with a nutritional program (kind of fell off there for a while since I wasn't able to exercise). Then begin to crawl back into normal training. Eventually I want to be hitting PRs again and lifting heavy enough to satisfy me.
It happened while squatting. I was doing a program I should not have been doing (maybe HST, I don't remember) that called for squats 2x/week. I was only doing a warmup set and I tweaked something. I have always had back issues - that's why I got into training in the first place.
What I really need to do is dedicate myself to my life, instead of work (as much). This will have a profound effect on my training and overall health, I suspect.
