Kids & Whey protein

Is it okay for a 6 year old to drink whey protein shakes? My son loves to taste mine every time I make it and he wants one but I'm not sure if it's okay for them to consume it at this age. All I use is banana, oatmeal,PB,ice, water and Whey protein.

Should be fine. It's only protein.

Yep.

My 7 year old eats protein bars and drinks whey as a meal replacement. He eats nothing but processed food and stupid stuff.

I'd check with a pediatrician on that, as most (Muscle Milk, etc) have amino acids and supplements, and other ingredients that might cause interference with childhood development, etc. I absolutely DON'T know what I'm talking about, but I do know that when it's a kid's health at stake, it's better safe than sorry.

There is nothing harmful in them,
I would be shocked to hear someone say he shouldn't drink them.
As Long as he has a balanced diet I am sure he is Gtg.

does he drink milk? eat steak? eggs?

Ain't nothing wrong with it. Give him a little shake if he wants it. Obviously you don't want it to replace meals, so don't give him a big ass shake like you'd drink. Let it be a treat.

I don't see any issue with it. Kids drink those ensure or carnation instant breakfast drinks without any issues. I don't think kids would benefit from a couple heaping scoops of monster milk though.

we make our two year old smoothies with a lil natural whey in it. we don't let her have artificial sweetners, that is our only thing

Yes, no. If your child eats normal meals than it should not be used as a meal replacement. My 7 year old however is an exception. He walks around with his dinner. A pop tart (lol) and his protein shake :)

my son is 6 and he started wrestling this year...on tournament days i mix him up a shake with whey protein, whole milk and 2 tsp's of ribose (my doc recommended it for recovery between matches)...after each match he has a few pulls on the bottle and then chases it with a little gatorade...i try to make the shake last all day.

my kids pediatrician said it was fine when she was as young as three just don't over do it because you're dealing with little kidneys and yeah...just like mista said...watch for constipation

at the time it was probably the only damn protein she was getting

No, not an adult formula of Whey (which has supplements in it not safe for kids), unless it's just pure protein, but even then, a scoop has too much protein for a child.
I used a Pea/Rice protein for kids either from Metagenics or from Thorne. Check out Vega Lite from Thorne for kids. Especially if a child has any allergies.

I just looked over my whey and a kids sized shake comes out to a hair below the RDA for protein for a three year old

Also, make sure the protein has natural sweeteners, Not that crap aspartame or sucralose. Both are unsafe. so if it's about your child health, then use only whey with natural sweeteners

Thank you all for all your input : ) I appreciate it! My son does eat. He would rather eat, chicken, steak, rice, beans ect over junk food. Once in a while he will ask for a burger, nuggets or pizza but most of the time is healthy eating.

It's awesome he likes healthy foods, if he see's me eating for example cottage cheese and strawberries he will ask to have some too! Any healthy food I eat he likes as well. Besides plain fat free Greek yogurt! Lol he says Papi how can you eat that stuff!! lol

as long as you give him small little versions of your shakes as treats now and then, it will be a great reward for him, and encourage the kind of activities you will want him to be involved in going forward.

That is great Pitbull that he eats well, Most kids (especially kids who come from unhealthy parents) eat like crap.

Keep up the good work.

It depends on his overall diet. At the end of the day, it is all calories in calories out. He probably does not need the extra calories unless he is pretty active.

Lol Abby won't eat that either and she'll eat anything.

Put him on a tren cycle with some a-bombs to be safe though. Or just whatever SB would take.

Thank you Blueta2 : )

@ Cindy, lol I was the same the first time I had it but after awhile I started to crave it lol
