Randy's 38, Pedro's 30. And Randy's big strikeout numbers are bolstered by facing the pitcher 4 or 5 times a game, a luxury Pedro does not have. Yet Pedro maintains a lower ERA.
Pedro is way better than randy.
Interesting spin.
Randy does NOT face a pitcher 4 to 5 times a game......at best he will face a pitcher 3 maybeeeee 4 times. Pedro maintains a lower ERA yes but also look at innings pitched.
Let's look at the last three yrs.
'99 Pedro's ERA 2.07 IP = 213
Randy's ERA = 2.48 IP = 271. 58 more innings or 6+ complete games and thats in the NL where pitchers are not as likely to work deeper into the games.
'00 Pedro ERA = 1.74 IP= 217
Randy's ERA = 2.64 IP = 248 Not as big a diff but still it equals 3 games
'01 Pedro's ERA 2.39 IP = 116 He was hurt of course.
Randy's ERA = 2.49 IP = 249.
Interesting stats for you........ How many K's they have in relationship to the batting order in the last three yrs:
#1 = 117
#2 = 120
#3 = 114
#4 = 147
#5 = 109
#6 = 122
#7 = 104
#8 = 104
#9 = 146
Pedro's stats
#1 = 59
#2 = 75
#3 = 83
#4 = 98
#5 = 81
#6 = 93
#7 = 101
#8 = 93
#9 = 77
Conclusion........ I dunno...... 10% of Pedro's K's come from the #9 spot whereas 13% for Randy.
