What do you guys think anesthetics are?

I used the phrase pain killer because that's what most people are trying to use it as. The general loss of sensation it causes can be classified as killing or causing physical insensibility to pain.

I figured most people would understand "pain killer" while most people do not fully understand anesthetic.
