just bought some today.....have been on my ckd diet for 2 days...today i had 22g of carbs and yesterday i had 21g...peed on the stix and it didn't change color. how long does it typically take to get in ketosis? 3-5 days? from what i have read i'm pretty sure my diet is on point....nothing over 30g of carbs but i stay in the low 20's to be safe. if i'm wrong pls correct...thx guys

lifterforlife, do you have a more accurate way?
 
My thoughts on ketostix are they are really unreliable...for instance, you may well be in ketosis, just not enough ketones in your urine to be detected with a dipstick.

Urine and breath are usually both pretty vile when in ketosis, usually fairly easy to tell this way.

my ketostix have different levels of measurement on the bottle.

what is your fat intake at? i have not done a ckd before but i know it needs to be high to push you into ketosis. i have seen some people post that they are not getting there and that is why. here is a link that might help you out: http://168.144.38.254/ckd/default.asp
 
if you want to get into ketosis as fast as possible, do a couple full body workouts and cardio, you can usually hit it in 2 or 3 days. Otherwise, with only diet, ketosis takes longer.
 
stats 27 5'9 168lbs btwn 10-11% bf

Totals 2454cals 172 fat 21 carbs 202 protein

this is what it will typically look like...the fat and protein may change a little depending on what i eat but the carbs will rane from 15-25g. i think my fat content is pretty high. i'll try again tonight when i get home from gym

macros are broken up over 7 meals and consist mainly of tuna w/mayo, cheeseburgers w/o bun, chicken, eggwhites, mozz, sopresotta, and peanut butter. going to do this 5 days straight.....mon-fri and then sat- sun i will basically use a 40pro/40carbs/20fat making sure i get a lot of fiber and green veggies in there!

how long have you been doing this? have you seen good results? i'll prob only do this for about 2-3 weeks and then switch it back.

Ketostix are about 1 day late in showing you level of ketosis...keep in mind, it takes about 3 days to naturally get into ketosis, either way - you're checking too early.
 
OK COOL....i guess i'll check tomorrow or friday then. my diet looks like this

meal 1 shake (6g of carbs)

meal 2 ham and eggs

meal 3 2 hamburgers without bun

meal 4 1 can of tuna w/mayo

meal 5 2 hamburgers without bun or 5 whole eggs

meal 6 chicken, or steak...if chicken i'll cook with olive oil and add some cheese

meal 7 sopresotta, provolone cheese, roated re peppers and mozz cheese

macros are posted up top
 
Once your body becomes accustomed to the flip into ketosis, it will happen faster, you can use some help too:

first, day before you decide to get into ketosis start cutting back your overall cals and make most of them that were fat into carb calories... your last meal, in the early evening should be pretty simple sugar heavy. it helps the body flip.

every hour for four to six hours after that last meal, pop a Glucorell-R (rALA) tab, you will not want to be out on the town for this, it might make you a feel a bit like poop after a while, so do it at home then hit the hay.

Next morning: do back and legs. kick the shit out of them. Your food the first 24-48 hours should have NO carbs, not 24 or 22: NONE. 60%+ of your cals have to come from fat, not less.

That afternoon do some savage HIIT cardio, for real, it will suck, but kill it.

You will more likely than not be in ketosis by the time you wake the next morning, about 30-36 hours, not 72.

You CAN drop into ketosis with the help of Insulin abuse, in as little as 4-6 hours, but if you are not familiar and extremely experienced with its use and dangers, do not even think of fucking around with it. it can, and has, killed folks.

shit! i started monday....i def had about 18-21g of carbs the first day on the diet...this is my 3rd day. would you suggest me stopping and starting again next monday? or maybe tomorrow just do 0g of carbs with a shitload of cardio tonight and tomorrow while getting silly with the gluc's? appreciate everyone's help here so far...it's helping me out alot!
 
stick with it, you body will get better at it as you do it more frequently. what do your macros look like, in terms of percentages? fats/pro/cho.
 
roughly 68%fat %30protein 2%carbs

i'm the fat and protein will change a few % depending on what i eat but the carbs will pretty much stay the same
 
for me ketosis can begin in 24 hours. basically run it like they do for epileptic patients on a ketogenic diet, skip 2-3 meals, then eat about 90% fats w/ a little protein for the next 24 hours more or less unrestricted (0g carbs at this time) then up the protein to more like 20-25% and you'll stay in moderate to heavy ketosis (at least i do). be careful of things like ketchup, certain dressings, even diet soda (contains aspartame and citric acid). basically your food groups are FAT, MEAT, WATER. even peanuts and some meat products have carbs.

i suggest using ketostix, they are accurate and as long as your drinking lots of water which you need to be you'll be able to track ketosis within 30 min or so.

ketosis diets aren't delicious even though you get to eat all the fatty greasy meat you want, you will still want carbs, but the cravings are really nothing.

you can add in your carbs in the form of fiber supps & high fiber, low carb veggies (broccoli is perfect) but stay under 20g once ketosis is at a moderate or higher level. One ketchup packet can have 3-5g carbs so realize the impact these little things have.

busting your ass in the gym trying to deplete your glycogen stores will help but the most important thing is to completely remove every trace of carbs for the first 24-36 hours, your body will HAVE to go to ketosis, and when it sees you're eating lots of fat it will do this very readily.

then you can do CKD or TKD or whatever works for you.
