keto not working

sick

New member
ive been on the keto diet for 4 weeks now & my weight has gone from 215 lbs to 195 lbs. so i thought the diet was working well. so i got my skin folds done again. they have hardly gone down.i look soft & flat.ive been in contest shape before so i know how to get into shape. everybody has been raving about how good the keto diet is, i thought i would give a try . so far i have found it to be the worse diet i have ever done.what am i doing wrong?

keto isnt really for everyone, I do well on it but others I know just dont get good results. After 4 weeks you havent lost too much fat on keto, the first 8# or so are usually water for me at least

What do your calories/breakdown look like?

I'm in the same boat, keto diet always sucked for me but works for many that i've talked with and worked with. For me I just look flat and flabby all the time.

One variation that works extremely well is no carbs, LOW fat, and very high protein (1.5 - 2g) per lb., and cycle carbs having a high carb day every 4th day. If you don't want to go 0 carbs on low carb days try .5g per lb and that might help.

Anyway, i've had the same problem, my skinfold on my abs and pecs get progressively worse on a keto diet (and I DO) keep track of cals. I think it has a lot to do w/ individual variances in peoples abilities to use different energy sources efficiently (fats, carbs)

everyone's different

I'm going to have to agree with PwB, in that everyone responds differently to different diets. I had previously been on a "zone type" diet, eating low glycemic carbs, lean proteins, and healthy fats. I did keep track of calories and made sure everything was in line. I ended up experiencing exactly what you were referring to. I felt flat, and although I did lose a bit of weight, my strength suffered and I felt I lost at least as much muscle. So far, my keto diet (metabolic diet) has been going very nicely. One thing that has struck me as odd is that I don't seem to get "flat" as other people have mentioned. Even after a few days, my muscles still feel and look full, and as I mentioned on another post, for whatever reason, I feel "pumped" after a decent sized portion of heavy cream + spenda (whipped). Someone on this list (can't remember who) told me that it might have something to do with intramuscular triglycerides acting much like carbs in filling out the muscle. Hell if I know.

Please, do let us know your macronutrient profile as best you can. Also, what does your workout look like, are you taking any supplements, etc...?

My keto diet is not working either.

I have been eating motzerella chese by the chunks, beef, chinese food fried wings , tuna, stir frying scallops and shrimp in vegie oil, hillshire farms polish keilbasa links, spam, canned corned beef, turkey spam (yuck), some veggies, nuts, whole egges with mayo, bacon, cheese omlettes, coffee with nutrasweet and half-and-half, diet sodas.

Give or take things here and there, I am not eating alot of veggies. Maybe some every two days or so.

I lost weight but my BF % is not going down. So I'm going to go back to Crum's diet. It worked great in the past until I started modifiying it.

I'm in ketosis everyday, as per my keto strips.

I think I am eating toooooo much protien and fat, which I thought was impossilbe on this type of diet.

Eating too much is NOT at all impossible on this diet. There's nothing magical about ketosis and calories still MUST be cut to burn bodyfat. Higher fat/protein foods have a tendency to blunt hunger for most but not all people, and only within a certain range of bodyfat. Its very easy to eat too many calories on a keto diet and if you do u WONT lose fat, simple as that. Keep track of calories and let me know how many u are eating on a consistant basis, not just on a given day when u could be eating a ton more the next day or two.

i was eating 2400 cals which is 12 x my bodyweight.70% of cals r from fat .so this works out to be about 200g fat & 180g protein. i weigh 197 lbs

the diet is coming along good this week.i added some carbs& insulin post workout & it has hardened me up & filled me out a bit.this has put me deeper in ketosis as well & i cant beleive how much this has brought down my skin folds.
