KB's 2nd ride....

So, last week I did my first 3-hour training session with Eddie, the Albanian motorcycle wonder kid. Got used to being on the bike, worked a little on braking, drove around in circles a lot, worked on moving from a stopped position (all on a Ninja 250)

We typically use a huge near-empty parking lot in Forest Park, Queens. Unfortunately, since it snowed last week, the lot was covered (never plowed). So, Eddie decides to take me to a parking lot by Home Depot / Sports Authority. Noon on a Saturday - yeah, not too many people there, guy. Drove around in circles again practicing stopping and then going. There were about 6000000 million people there, so I had to deal with cars and humans for the first time ever. = nerve racking. We eventually got kicked out of the parking lot by a douche employee. Then I did some circles around the Home Depot lot, dealing with cars again.

Then we hit the roads. Pants ready to be shat? YES!

We were supposed to just go on "quiet roads". Well, there aren't many quiet roads in this area of Queens. Dealt with a lot of stop signs and red lights, some pedestrians. Lots of cars honking at me from behind cause it took me 3 minutes to get going from a red light, lol.

Then we get lost and end up on fucking Queens Blvd. On a Saturday afternoon. Great! Lots of people and red lights and cars and intersections. Did pretty good. Paniced at one red light cause I had taxi next to me, cars behind me, was trying to take a right, and a million pedestrians. But other than that, did pretty good.

Taking another 3 hours next week

Re: KB's 2nd ride....pants shitting nears commencement

Oh, and Eddie taught me the art of beeping at hot chicks and yelling in their general direction when they don't look at the bike.

Re: KB's 2nd ride....pants shitting nears commencement

So its sort of like going for a nice quiet motor / sailboat ride down the Intracoastal in Ft. Lauderdale, but the motor craps out & you have to tack back down the Intracoastal, not hit any down bridges and make the turn into your canal & get pulled up to your dock w/o smashing into something.

Did u do donuts in the snow?

people in cars are idiots...ride your own path/road. stay away from other motorists...be careful bro, i wanna ride with you sometime. keep up the good work, most of all enjoy it.

As a Texan my lone experience in NYC is that the chixcks honk at you, no thte other way around. My southern humbleness was soon vanquished at the hand of hot NYC bitches.

Something like what? The training or the bike??

The training. I assumed they provided the bike, but you make me think otherwise. Break down the cost of the bike and the cost of the training, thanks.

Holy Barking Orders, Batman!!

Well, I found a kid on craigslist to do the training. $50 per hour. He supplies the bike and the helmet (it's a Ninja 250, MSRP for a new 07 is about $3k). I had to get my permit in order to ride on the streets, which was an additional $55 ($40 for the test and $15 for the permit).

only $3,000 for something you can drive on the road? is that the correct price?

It's a motorcycle dude, not a car. Also, the 250 is the "smallest" motorcycle, if we're not talking dirtbikes and scooters.

Dude, this kid makes DOUGH. For real. He's never not busy with the lessons. And if you think about it, he incurs pretty much zero cost above and beyond gas (minimal). If you have a 250 you don't mind getting banged up a little, it really is a great move.

your licensing fees are cheap. i was at the motor vehicle registry a couple of weeks ago regarding my bike license and im up for 600 in fees alone, it sucks :(

3000 for a kawi ninja is about right. you guys get everything cheaper over there anyway. bastards lol

theres a guy downstairs with a silva ninja that i always see parked, im going to pick it up and run home with it :D

Dam I never rode a bike, would love to, just scared of killing myself. I think its too crowded in this area. I know someone who got hurt pretty bad on one. Not to put fear in you KB. For now Ill stick to jetski's. I live in NJ which is very populated, not as much as Queens, I would worry more about other people(cars) when riding than.

First time around cars is always nerve racking. I stalled more than once my first time out at stoplights, never felt less manly then having to sheepishly restart the bike and get going.

Cheers,
Scotsman

Lessons are free in PA...and when you complete the course, you have your license

learning permit is 22 bucks I think.

You're learning with a passenger riding pillion? That seems awkward.

Just for certain parts. Logistically, it's the only thing that makes sense. Hasn't been an issue for me thus far
