Kali fighting?

Anybody here into this? I figured it'd be worthwhile to look into a MA that uses knives since I carry one all the time anyways. Just wondering if anyone has some info on it.

you'd be better off not resorting to a knife fight unless you absolutely have to
with martial arts training (no matter how useless) you can go to jail for defending yourself, if you knife someone and are trained at knife fighting, you will be screwed....
of course if they are trying to kill you survival do what you have to just expect to go to jail over it sadly

I would agree with kane fan but it also has some very useful empty hand tecniques which are great for disarming and defending a knife attack as well as overall self defense but if you want to be able to "fight" using blades then I would say forget about that notion. That's why it is better to have an ink pen or something like that in your pocket if you were ever attacked because the tecniques can be applied to a multitude of objects for self defense but again only use them if you have to (not telling you to carry a pen as a weapon just saying it can be used if it's between your life and fighting back). If you take kali you won't just be thrown in a class, given a knife, and be told "Lets kill!" anyway. Instead I would focus on defending and dissarming instead of attacking. Krav Maga is also good for this purpose from what I hear, never taken it so I can't comment on that. Hope this helps, and remember always think smart on the street cause they won't hesitate to throw you in prison for assault.

Thanks guys.. I like using knives and learning to defend from one would be good too, wasnt just planning on all out assaulting with it, sort of like a last chance thing if its getting ugly.



When I turn 21 I plan on getting CCW and carrying a gun anyways. But thats a little ways off and on a day to day basis I carry a knife (comes in handy lots of time in noncombat situations).

If im not caught on the spot by the police I'd simply leave them on the ground. This is for last ditch situations when someone is attacking to seriously injure me and possibly kill me of course..

Well I'd check the law, dont think I'd get into trouble defending myself with a knife if someone attacked me. If theres any possible way I get sued or arrested I'd leave his ass on the street and simply walk away, there isnt gonna be any charges put on me if noone knows who I am.

Dude, I don't think you're gonna have to worry about some punk pulling a blade on you and then you killing them because your martial skills are too brutal for the general public. Forget about what you would do in that situation because, as in a fight, to premeditate anything is to make a mistake. So if you are concerned about this, then I would learn as much as I can about defense, not offense, because when it comes to the real world, on the street, whatever you wanna call it, you can't be very offensive when it comes to weapon use. Unless you would LOVE to spend some time in prison of course. Not tryin to flame, just telling you that you can't really have a badass, invincible attitude out there because it will eventually catch up to you. I would encourage you to take some classes in the Phillipino arts to see what I mean. You'll love them and your psyche will mature in regards to the gravity of responsiblity that comes with weaponry skills.

I already own guns, I just cant carry one concealed legally.


I never ever fight, I feel this way, if someone attacks me they deserve whatever they get, I talk myself out of less dangerous fights, I'd never fight anyone unless it was someone attacking me while im completely alone and there gonna seriously screw me up or rob me.


I'd rather kill someone attacking me then get beat nearly to death or robbed because I didnt wanna hurt them. You know how I think? FUCK anyone who is a criminal. If you have a problem with me carrying a gun you obviously support criminals , I have no mercy and dont put my trust in the police.

If I get robbed I can call the cops to report it but is that gonna get my money back? HELL NO. If someone is attacking me it would take how long for the police to come to the scene of the crime? More then likely I would have done gotten my ass stomped and the criminals would be long gone.


Call me immature if you wish, its your right to have an opinion. There are countless people who feel the same way I do, worrying about hurting scum is the last thing on my mind.


The original post was asking for info on Kali, I was thinking Kali and CQC would be a good cross.

I dont have that attitude, thats why I want to learn how to use weapons effectively. Im not 100% sure if I could defend myself from an attacker.
