I actually just went through this myself...it is kind of funny how they pick. I, of course, white, blonde, female, had the honor of being "pat down"... even had to take my shoes off! Got stopped before boarding the plane at the metal detectors too...the buttons on my jeans set it off. For once I was glad to actually be off the ground and flying. I just kind of laughed, but it did make me feel safe in some way.

They need to be politically correct and so I think they choose every tenth person or something like that. It's a hassle and probably NOT the best method but imagine how long we'd be waiting if they checked all of us!?

I just flew on Thursday and there were a group of 3 guys,all middle eastern descent. Security was all over'em like Tony Siragusa at a buffet. Two of them sat next to me and turned out to be some Ok fellas. They didn't care that they were picked aside, and said they didn't blam security one bit. Up untill Wednsday I felt the same exact way you did. Just know that its not like that everywhere.

BTW: I was at Denver International Airport
