Just bought a DVD Recorder...

I just picked this thing up. Was expensive, totaling around $525.00, but whatever..., bought it for the gf. I don't mind once in a while, spending some cash. She is worth it, and not a goldigger. Well, I don't know everything this thing is capable of doing just yet,...but from the list of what the guy was reading off at "Best Buy"...this thing seems like it could do a lot of cool things. I picked up a "Samsung," and from what I can tell, this brand, and type, runs pretty good. Looked at a "Pioneer" there, buy they wanted $1k for it. NO way,...way too much money for a DVD recorder, even if I had it, no way. I could see for a tv, but I figured I had paid just about enough for a good product already. Anyway, any of you guys pick one up, yet? Comments?...


P.S. Funny thing is,....in about a couple months, to a year,... this thing will be going for $150-175.00 from the original retail of Five hundred twenty, & change. Oh, well...

Can you record off of Pay Per Views from Satellite TV with that? I would never buy DVD`s again. Pay $3.99 for a movie and record it.

btw I payed $1000 for a DVD PLAYER, 301 disc Pioneer Elite. lol

That’s what I bought; a Samsung! I bought Samsung because I have a Samsung HDTV and I wanted to match brands. It took me a while to figure out all of the features, but once you do, it’s really an excellent piece of equipment.

Yeah you should be able to. But I've got TiVo as well and let me tell ya, it's a HELL of a lot easier to record stuff on TiVo than on a recordable DVD. I've got it set up so I record everything on TiVo first and then, if I REALLY like something, I'll burn a DVD off the TiVo. Still hasn't happened after almost three months...

That sounds like an excellent combination; TiVo + DVD-r. I’ve been meaning to look into that.

It's not a bad combo. The only problem is that there's NOTHING on TV I want to record and save, except for HBO (Sopranos, Six Feet Under, etc.). But I usually get the entire season when it's out on DVD anyway.

I dunno, maybe I'll love it when I've have more time to watch TV (any year now).
