just a quickie about bulking!?

600 calories in muscle, 3500 calories in fat!

When bulking people are told to eat 500 calories over maintenance a day, which adds up to 3500 cals a week over maintenance. This is said to gain you a pound of muscle, but if muscle is only 600 calories then are you not gaining fat instead!?

confused!? i no i am!

yeah i am, after i have finsihed the yohimburn/dieting then im thinking about bulking up and getting a bit more muscle, so im getting the facts now.

u eat 3500 cals above maintenance over a week u gain a lb of body fat.realistically ud, b lookin 2 gain bout 3-4 oz muscle...not the full lb!!.thats assuming u havent been trainin long and ur natural.

well jerkbox its like this:

a lb of muscle is equivelent to 600 calories.
a lb of fat is equivelent to 3500 calories.

when people lose weight they aim to drop 500 cals a day to make up dropping 3500 cals a week. This is said to lose you 1 lb of fat.

What i was confused about is when people are bulking up they are trying to gain muscle and not fat, so i was confused that people use the same concept of gaining muscle as when losing fat however muscle has less amount of calories than fat.

as muscle has less calories than fat then when some people are losing weight and they do this with a huge calorie deficit then the majority of weight lost is muscle because it is only equivelent to 600 calories. that is why it is advised to only cut down by 500 cals a day when dieting.

do you get it now or are you still confused?

so when your bulking, every lb u gain is about 25% muscle and 75% fat?

Nooooo. Everyone would be ridiculously fat if that was true. 3500kcals is the amount of energy in STORED bodyfat. I'm not sure where you got 600 for muscle, but I'm pretty sure it ain't right, I remember hearing like 2000 or something like that.
When you're bulking, you wil gain some chub, but not 75% of the weight you gain. If you know your body, you can gain muscle with little chub.

ok, I understand what you are saying.....and while I don't know enough to give you the answer...I am sure it is a lot more complicated than that.....being that building muscle is not simply storing calories.....like fat is.

yeah, it must be more complicated than that so thats why i was confused.

I think your right about building of muscle being diff. than fat, you maintain your muscle while fat is just a store of unused calories.
thanx for your input.
