jump rope

how many of you jump rope instead of running? or mix it in with your cardio? how do you think it compares to jogging or running?

.

well, when I do a regular cardio routine.. (I'm not now, cause I'm trying to put on mass) but I tend to get bored doing one particular routine so much.. often what I'll do is I mix it up.. I do say jump rope one day, running another day.. running up and down stairs yet another.. this way it stays interesting, and sometimes I'll say.. do 10 minutes skipping, then proceed to 2 minutes jumping jackes (without break) and then run a few laps around the block (5 minutes) run up and down stairs for 3, then do another 10 minutes of skipping.. that one is fun.. I hope to get an exercycle soon though, so I can add that into the cardio routine.. when I'm doing cardio indoors I like to put music on.. that is good too..

I am not coordinated enough to jump rope. I am super heavy on my feet. Plus, i feel that i dont have hardley enough endurance to do rope for any useful amount of time.

But, there's a guy at my gym who has UNBELIEVABLE endurance and can jumprope for 45 minutes strait at a greuling pace without stopping. Of course, he does this after a self-defence class, and before 30 minutes on teh bike.

You can see the fibers in his muscle coming through the skin. Its pretty cool.

sorry i didn't really answer you question, but by default for me, treadmill or stairmaster is better because i just can't jump rope :)

I use to do it a lot. It was fun when I got 2 friends spinning the pink rope on either side of me and we'd all sing funny cadence songs about boys ....teehee:)

Seriously man, I use to do it all the time and it was great for warming up for training. I don't think you can really compare it to jogging, but it could compliment it well. Its more intense than a mellow jog.

lol yep, my family does think I take things a bit too seriously or crazily, but I try to get them involved.. hehe. sometimes they get mad at me..

some techniques

these are some skipping techniques I use..
I usually just do the normal skipping motion when doing jump rope.. but then sometimes I'll skip on one foot and increase the speed alot, then without stopping, switch to the other food, always keep the non-jumping food out infront, not behind or level.. then sometimes I'll do both feet jumping at the same time at a fast pace.. and backwards also.. lots of different types you can do
