I've been watching the World Athletics Championships on TV. Anyone check out the physique on American sprinter John Drummond.

That dude has a body to die for. I know they get tested often but no one can look that muscular and cut and be au natural.

In fact it's given me an idea. Why not train like a 100 meter sprinter and have the body of a Drummond or Maurice Green, rather than bulk up and do hours of boring cardio?

I'd rather run 100 meters every day than 2-3 miles a week! Anyone else?

They train a lot I think. More than anyone else can while holding down a job. I read the diet of a top sprinter once in some mag, and from what I remember he eats like one or maybe two solid foos meals and the rest in the form of protein shakes. Didn't look like much food and it really seemed like he had to have been using gear. Sprinting has been shown, however, to burn fat while maintaing muscle mass better than cardio, at least to a degree and depending on diet.

their workouts are insane bro, they don't just run 100m dashes... and yes, they are all on AS. they just don't bust the top guys because they bring money into the sport. but yes, they do have awesome physiques. if anyone trains as a sprinter i'd like to hear your take.

I used to be a collegiate sprinter, and it is a little misleading when distance runners say they have to do more work. Not only is there the sprinting itself, but you have to lift legs like crazy and do plyo stuff, running drills and an endless amount of stretching and warming up. Most guys would end up training twice a day in-season.

Greene and Drummond's appearances are a little misleading. Neither of them weigh more than 180lbs. They are just so cut and proportunal that they look bigger. In normal clothing they don't look that big. Alot of chicks really like that type of body though.

The other problem these guys face is actually adding too much muscle. When you are mostly fast-twitch, as all these guys are, it is generally pretty easy to grow. Throw even moderate steroid use into the equation, and it is easy for them to get too big. This happened to our top sprinter my freshman year... the guy had very very low bf (around 5%) but at about 197 was way too heavy for the 200 (the extra muscle helped alot in the 55 though). He was so concerned about the weight gain that he developed an eating disorder. I am not saying that these guys are clean... I'm just saying that they rely more on stuff like GH, nootropics and test in amounts under the T:E ratio than on heavy use of anabolic/androgenic steroids.

definately not an easy sport.
