Job/Career advice needed please!!!!

I'm 37, and I went for an interview for a (office based) job that pays more than my current job and is a step up in my career. Thing is, I did ok for the most part, but I felt a little uncomfortable with one of the interviewers, and the vibe I got when I left was that he wasn't that impressed with me. He admitted that the reason the job paid so well was that it can be, at times quite pressurised and stressful. Also he said that the software used was the most complicated I would come across to date, but eventually I would get the hang of it, After the interview finished I felt a bit put off to be honest, not saying they are gonna offer me the job but I almost hope they don't. As for the interviewers, it was like a good cop/bad cop routine...one was friendly, the other was not welcoming at all to be honest.

I work in the same office as people who do this job and while at first it seemed a nightmare for them, things seem to have calmed down. My worry is that if it doesn't work out I'll have to get another job which could be lower pay and I will struggle financially (I have no savings) and its only been recently that I got myself sorted financially after 2-3 years of stress and worry.

What do you think I should do? I gotta go up in my career sometime but is it set in stone that if you want more money in your career the pressure goes up? Has anyone on here gone up the world, done something different and erned loads more money (I'm talking £20,000+) without that much more pressure? (not looking for an easy ride by the way)
i am an internal office worker working as a customer service rep by the way - don't wanna do any travelling or anything like that.

Bro,
#1.) you might of done so well that you made him jealous and worried for his job :)
#2.) anytime you go into something new the pressure and stress are going to go up for about 2 weeks until you settle in. after that its smooth.
#3.) you will never get away from stress. :worried:

good job moving up!

Always be looking for a way up. You are nearing the age that most people start to stagnate in their career. Don't let that happen....

I appreciate your replies guys...only thing now holding me back is if it goes wrong my financial situation will be a mess thats all....as for the interviewers it was almost a good cop/bad cop thing, one was the total opposite to the other.

I don't change jobs for less than a 15% bump in pay, minimum. If I factor in profit-sharing/401K it'd probably take closer to 25% now.

If you have worked on the phone in customer service...you should try some phone based sales or collections that have a commisioned insentive..It will give you the ability to work less and make more if you are good a it..

What sucks about changing jobs is that alot of places now require 3-5 years to vest the 401(k) match. That's alot of money to be throwing away before it's vested....if that isn't a factor than switch for a raise asap...

he doesn't seem to like pressure, and here his finances would be based on performance which can be the ultimate pressure....but if he can handle, would be a good step
