www.thaigem.com sells cheap jewelry, i guess they use slave labor or something. i want to buy a diamond for a girl i know (she has never had a diamond before) so i prefer it be big.

2 questions


1. should i buy a low quality diamond (champagne colored) rather than a clear one? you can get a .6 carat (6mm X 5mm) champagne diamond for the same price as a .15 carat (3.5mm x 3mm) white/clear diamond.

2. can i buy a loose diamond, then attach it to a necklace setting myself? can i even buy necklace settings?

1.0mm - .005 Ct
1.5mm - .015 Ct
2.0mm - .03 Ct.
2.5mm - .06 Ct.
3.0mm - .10 Ct.
3.5mm - .16 Ct.
4.0mm - .23 Ct.
4.5mm - .35 Ct.
5.0mm - .47 Ct.
5.5mm - .63 Ct.
6.0mm - .80 Ct.
6.5mm - 1.00 Ct.
7.0mm - 1.25 Ct
7.4mm - 1.50 Ct.
8.0mm - 1.90 Ct.

i was thinking of either a .07 carat white diamond, or a .2 carat champagne (same price). the white is about 2.7mm in diameter, the champagne is 4mm. not that big a difference.

besides, this girl doesn't really care about that. i doubt it. but i'd rather be safe than sorry & get the white stone. its more that she has never gotten/had a real diamond before.

does anyone know if i can buy a loose stone, then attach it myself to a necklace?
