Hey man...I just noticed your avatar. Your back look pretty impressive man. You got a full size pic of that? I'll host it and post it for you if you don't mind. Impressive.

I was curious what your back routine was like, what you felt made it grow the most, as well as your general ideas as to what it takes to build a big back...

In other words.... "Jerkbox's principles of a big back"

Seriously...

Hello?????!!!!!!!!

whoa!

this is completely unexpected!

sorry for my untimeliness, I am off work and was out enjoying the beautiful weather....

here's some pics I had posted a while ago, I added that back pic at the bottom:

http://www.pigzinspace.com/photos.htm

as far as my routine.....nothin really special about it...just heavy rows, and pulldowns/chinups....

I like to do pulldowns and chins as wide and heavy as possible...as I think it builds width, pausing for a nice squeeze at the bottom, and as slow a negative as possible.

with rows, I have always done either bent over or hammer strength machine rows with the chest support....again as heavy as possible and with a slow negative, often using a wide grip or parallel grip on the hammer strength rows.

oddly enough, I have never really done deads in the past....but I have started doing them recently. I always focused on squats, which I believe has made my back very strong.

also, I have been known to do power cleans

reps and sets have varied over the years....but one thing always remained the same - heavy as possible.

so, there you have it, Jerkbox's back principles. Like I said, nothng special.

thanks for the interest B, means a lot coming from a 300lb monster like yourself...lol.

Good post man...I really hope that this helps someone.

Any thoughts or advice to give to someone about building a big back???

Yeah, man, the pic is black and white, so I never took a good notice since I saw this, the upper back is thick, definitely a nice strong point to have. It also goes to show everyone that heavy basics work best. Personally, I have had the best results with heavy basics. Deads and O-Lifts are king, and Jerkbox, if you don't do deads very often, wait till you do, you have a big upper back now, so just wait, be sure to post some pics. Also, like you stated, squats, squeezing the traps and upper back with all that weight on your back will do wonders......and it sounds like you have text book form too, so everyone who is wondering why your back won't grow, read this post over and over.....the squeezing at the bottom and the slow negative that JBox described is the way to go...strict training and no sloppy shit is the way to go.
