Jehaovah's Witnesses.....

I know your mom is one, so out of respect for you I'll
temper most of my comments.
But, They better not ever walk in front of my car or
They'll see the Big H on the hood bearing down on
them at high speed.
Damn they drive me nuts. I used to live in a townhouse
years ago and we'd get them 2-3 times a week.
Drove me bonkers....

They have come to my door in the past, I just choose not to listen to them..... it's up to them what them want believe.

What does bother me is I know that they do sometimes target vunerable people such as the elderly, go around hospital wards etc...

I *personally* beliebe their religion is fucked up though.... that thing with blood transfusions and not being able to socialise with non-Jehovas witness's.....

Are they not based in NY(Watchtowere corp?)...

They call it witnessing... i call it harrassment... J/K I say you go "Yahwe" and i'll go mine.

Yeah, my mom is one, but she chilled out on the whole door- to- door thing years ago. She's also one of the least judgemental people I know.

Me: "Yeah, I had to get a blood test because I was with this chick from the club and the condom broke on me."

Mom: "Well, even if you test positive there's still a lot of treatment out there. Call us when you get the results. I love you." She rocks.

I think I've made some "don't stop at this guys house" list because they avoid me like the plague anymore. I use to invite them in and have these long debates and would really fuck with their heads and shit. After about two and a half hours they'd be begging to leave and I would still continue my arguements as they would be packing it in and heading for the door. I even chased one down the street once with a copy of the Baghivaghida.

My dad used to invite them in and then take a bath. They usually left pretty quickly, even though he made it clear they could come talk to him while he was taking the bath.

Then another time I visited a friend at a hotel, and I was like "damn, some sort of model convention" - all of these beautiful girls around (in Ronoake VA) - then I saw in the lobby, it was one of the biggest JW conferences in the country for that year (94ish).
Pissed me off - all of that wasted hotness all going to insanity.

A coworker told me the other day that he read in the news recently of some JW parents that beat their like 5 year old daughter to death with a belt - I read around more and apparently that is what some sects within many religions tell you to do if a family member dissents, you beat them for it - and if they die, then they weren't meant to be around anyway... not sure how the hell that logically got started.

Every demographic has its wackos, but I don't think I've ever heard of corporal punishment of that extent being endorsed by Jehovah's Witnesses. I heard of a sixteen year old once that was on those steroids that give you big muscles and make you crazy and he slit his girlfriends throat. 'Nuff said.

Here in Arkansas, I've heard of Witnesses doing their rounds in the Ozarks getting run off with a shotgun.

I have seen cases where children were basically disowned by their parents and siblings when they strayed from "The Truth", as Witnesses call it. I see no way in which this could benefit either party. I'm not a religious person in any respect, and I see the witness religion as one loopy coping mechanism among many. At least they don't fight wars in the name of God.

Here is one thing I will say in their favor. From what I have
seen, more Witnesses are ACTIVE in their religion than in many others. It's easy to say, "Yeah, I'm a Christian (Jehovah's Witnesses believe in God and Jesus Christ and consider themselves Christians), I believe in God.", and maybe go to a church service or two. Many Witnesses take time out of their day to go door to door spreading the word of their faith, which they feel is their duty according to the Bible. And believe it or not, it is not a comfortable thing for many to do- especially when you're not used to it and you know that the odds are you will be facing some serious ridicule. They're still people with insecurities, you know. Despite this, they go out and spread their faith.

Yeah, that is true, but would'nt their energy be far better expended doing something that actually benefits people....... It's all very well preaching the gospel but hows about put practising it?

I mean, I used to go to church years ago...... for one hour these people profess their faith, say they have sinned, promise to do better etc, etc. And many act like assholes the rest of the week.

The reason I stopped going was to work Sundays was on my hospital ward when we were severly understaffed and I felt that my work was far more in line with the churchs theaching of what Christians should be doing with their life(esp on Sunday)... I only get to be an asshole half the week that way:D

I don't think JW's are bad people, they obviously fervently believe in their faith, and as you say are relatively harmless(as opposed to other hardline sects).

I sometimes wonder if religion causes more problems that it solves...

Actually, I KNOW the answer to that one.
