So I have this freezer. DAMN IT!!!!!!!!! that has'nt ran for a few years. I plugged it in SUNDAY and it's still running without stopping. (Should I go chase it? HA!) jk It's a manual defrost freezer and it's building slight ice in there now. I think that's normal, but the fact that it has'nt stopped running might not be.

It is cold/freezing in there. I have frozen stuff inside, but it won't shut off. It has a gauge from off-1-7, and I have it on 5. I was told to shut it off, unplug it and replug it after 24 hours that it might be the compresser needs resetting or something.

answer!

Is there ice on the compressor? If so, you may be low on refrigerant.

I don't think so. It's pushed into a small sace where it fits exactly and I'm not pulling it out...for now. It seems to be working fine except for not shutting off. How cold in Temp does it have to be? It's a stand alone freezer btw.

I was told because you place them on their side during moving, that this might happen.

A!

Older deep freezes should not be plugged in for 24 hours after they've been moved if placed on thier side or flipped.

I did wait about a day to plug it in.

and I WANTED to buy a new one but this thing was free and we cleaned it up PERFECTLY. i thought I saved me $500 and this shit happens. Damn!!!!!!11ONE!!!111

how big is it? are small deep freezers really 500 dollars!? holy crap!

If you don't have a thermometer that goes to about -40°F, does the compressor kick off if you turn it all the way down to 1?

It's about 5 deet high and opens up like a regular fridge door. 4 or 5 shelves and door shelves. It's nice, free, but SUCKS! "You get what you pay for" Don't say it.

We had a little trouble taking it out of my neighbor's door and I said fuckit, I went to home depot on the spot to buy a new one just because we had that moving problem, but they did'nt have them in stock so I went back and finally DID take this freezer.

and cleaned it for 3 hours! Damn! Now if I shut it off, all the water will melt all over the freaking place. It's beige.

You need to let items of that nature sit for 24 hours before plugging them in.

I advise you drive very fast before the impending explosion.

j/k on the last part

-40F is also -40C. that is the only place on the scale both temps equal each other.

I'd toss it man, that thing is probably a power hungry monster...waiting to get evil on your electricity bill.

Plus appliances are cheap anymore...and a hell of a lot more efficient.

I wass thinking about that before I put it in, but since it's a freezer, it would'nt be opened too often and hopefully stay at the desired temp without staying on. It IS $500 though, and the wife's mother gave it to us, so I took it. I could by a nice remote for $500.

I'm gonna shut it off and restart it in 24 hours or so, maybe 48, then if it still does'nt work, I'll dump it.

Anyone want $400 worth of meat? Salmon, chicken, steak... hamburger....

this is probably what id go with since it sat up for awhile right.

when its on did you put your hand on the refrigerate lines to the compressor. one should be really warm(the return) and the supply should be really cold. if its low on refrigerate, the cold one will not be cold.

and when you turn it off does the compressor make any strange noise, like its degassing. if so your low.

and did you clean the coils real good?

Good info bro. Thanks. But the thing is sitting INSIDE a small closet that fits the freezer perfectly and I can't really be pulling it out and in. If it is the compressor or low on anything, I won't fix it. The thing is really old but very clean, new looking. I'll just dump it and forget it. It's not worth fixing it with a manufacture date of 1991. I'll see what happens tomorrow or the day after, I just turned it off today.

Open up the case and blow out the CPU fan with canned air before you burn the CPU up.
