I was out of the loop for a while. I don't even remember why- maybe I was busy with work for a few weeks, or a project, or reading a good book, i don't know. But I hadn't been really watching the news or reading the paper. Sometimes I'd hear bits and pieces of things, but because I hadn't been following, it didn't make much sense and I would change the channel. I figured I'd pay closer attention when whatever was going on blew over and a new event took place that I could follow.

That didn't happen though. It snowballed, and every day, the news continued with the same story I hadn't been following. Getting more and more complicated and mentioning names I no longer knew.

And here it is, years later and I have to confess something pretty embarassing.
I have absolutely no idea what this war is about and why we are there. none.

I'm calling bullshit

I just checked ESPN and there wasn't any mention of a war.

Better luck next time moron. I was actually worried for a second.

George Bush could have written the same post.

My question is

Why Iraq. Lots of countries do the exact same thing.

We have WMD's. Why didnt we just invade the US?

I guess it depends on who you are willing to believe why we're at work.

Does this war have a myspace page?

lol, everyone else does.

I am understanding a little more now that I found out that its WORK, not WAR. I'd be really upset if my sons had to go to work too. that SUCKS. those are KIDS, and we are making them WORK!!

i can't believe i got it wrong all this time.

you're asking me?
i don't have a friggin' clue.

Nah

I just thought it would be fun to be an empty ehaded liberal.

Life is so much simpler when no thought is required.

Trust me. You are ;)

Listen. There are plenty of reasons to object to the war.

Pretending Saddam "really wasn't so bad" in the grand scheme of things, and that there are lots of countries just as bad (albeit they can never name one that can sensically be dealt with militarily) isn't one.

The most amusing is witnessing the left today push the reactionary, stay the course, don't tip the boat, maintain the status quo line of the power brokers of the past.

The Left is? Honestly, is that your take on looking to get out of Iraq? Not tipping the boat? I would think the status quo right now is to keep spending billions and staying over there, it has been the status quo for about 5 years now.

I'm genuinely interested in what you mean.

Meaning there was a time when the "left" was about promoting freedom, democratic change, and toppling tyrants. It was the policy of the large business interests to maintain "stability" at any cost, regardless of impact on local populations.

It is in fact still the policy often pursued by our more "enlightened" European allies. It is a policy of screw the people so long as trade continues.

Calling finishing a job in Iraq status quo is silly bro. We are simply seeing through a policy we have already begun. And while surrender would be a change in the status quo, change for the sake of change is not a virtue.

No. The British among others are there and we like to pretend they matter.

We're cornering the falafel market.

I wouldn't worry about it Stilletto. These events are far too complicated for a gay guy to understand.

It's just an internet picture. But it reminds me of my late lamented cat Alice.

There's Canadians there selling coffee & poutine.
And there's shit eaters, selling fish & chips, bangers & mash, & toothpaste & brushes.
